New here and looking for a buddy in Union City-Weehawken area in NJ!

Hi!

Since our cat Zoe was diagnosed with diabetes last August, we haven't left town for so much as a day. Is there anyone here who lives in our area - 07086-07087 - and with whom we can exchange cat-visiting and insulin-injection favors?

Or a professional cat-sitter trained to give insulin shots?

Or someone who can recommend a reliable cat-sitter in our neighborhood?

Regarding vet techs: I already emailed our vet for a recommendation, but haven't heard back from her yet. I'm trying to cover all bases.

Please help! (We have two cats, but the other doesn't need medical attention, knock on wood.)

Hi Zoe's mom!

I actually found a vet tech from a completely different vet clinic than the one we go to. The techs at my vet's office, and I love my vet, don't pet sit. I would try other local vet clinics as another option. There is a website called Rover. Its primarily for dogs but there are sitters that pet sit for other fur babies. I found one there as a back up that was capable of giving injections all though not BG testing. There you would have to research whoever you find on that site to make sure it works for you and Zoe. I was contacted by a few and most weren't the right fit. Out of four I found one that I was comfortable with, this after meeting her in person and discussing our needs. Hopefully you'll hear from someone on FDMB that's from your area that can give you an actual referral.

Hi, I'm sorry to have to say that while I was a resident of West New York, I moved back to NY about a year ago. For a pet sitter I used Paws, Claws, and Tails. They would give injections. Unfortunately my cat was tough to do a big test on, so they weren't able to get one. They were willing to try though so you might have better luck if your cat is easier to handle than mine was.
