Thanks to many..... I now know what monitor to look at getting. I viewed some You Tube videos on how to draw the blood. Some recommended using a small 25 ga. Needle rather
than the lance method. Any thoughts on what's easiest on the kittie's????

Personally, I think what's easiest on the kitty is the method you find quickest and easiest to do. The faster you can get it done, the less stressful it is for the cat. You might get lucky and find a method that works for you instantly, or you might have to try a couple of different ones to find the best one for you - but you will find one that works for you and for your cat. :)

I use the lancet freehand rather than in the lancing device, I feel like I have better control of it that way, and my cat doesn't like the noise the device makes either, especially so close to his head. But lots of people use the lancing device with great success. It really is just a matter of what you, and your cat, are comfortable with. :)

Merianne, I lancet freehand as well. I usually test Genghis as soon as I put food down for her - it's a good distraction! Initially I just started by playing with her ears a bit, and she's really good about it. The more you do it, the easier it becomes - trust me! Another tip - when I first started out, I would actually put Band-Aids on my thumb and fingers to brace her ear. Remember that a lancet has an angle, or bevel -- turn it so that the pointy end angled for the tip to enter first --- argh, I'm not explaining this very well. I need to find the post about it. Anyway, hold the lancet very loosely (in case kitty bolts, then you won't rip the ear) and poke deftly and swiftly - you will get a feel for it but the Band Aid will protect you and keep you from being hesitant until you get better at it. Worked for me!
