New dx, Lantus, needs info/help on health please

Hi there.
Everything they say is absolutely true. Sammy was dx in 2006 and if it hadn't been for this board, well...
He even went off insulin for a year and if the vet hadn't refused to give me insulin sooner than he did he might not still be on it. He's now making the great leap from PZI Vet (which they stopped making) to Lantus and I'm hoping again. I can't add very much. They said it all. But I understand that - under normal circumstances - a 12lb cat needs a minimum of 180-300 calories a day. I'm not sure what that is in mice but Binky's charts have it in cans.
