I want to request a home testing kit but am definitely worried about using it. My cat will NOT sit still and let me massage her ears and all of that. I would have to just hold and her and stab her with the needle as quickly as possible. if anyone has tips for how to do it as quickly and painlessly as possible with minimum fuss, I'd be grateful.

Order a kit and start now. Set aside a place where you plan to test and get some treats she loves. Lure her there and give treats. The next time, start rubbing her ears (lots of praise and more treats). Build up to warming her ears with the rice sack or medicine bottle. By the time the kit arrives, she might be willing to sit still for this.

If not, lots of people use the kitty burrito at first with difficult cats. (wrap her in a towel with only her head showing)

It may take you a while to get good at it - I can't tell you how many times I did fur shots, or stuck me, or Spitzer moved.

While you work on learning and getting your cat to cooperate, there are secondary monitoring tools listed in my signature link. The urine ketone testing is a good one to do anyways, as ketones may indicate the start of diabetic ketoacidosis, a potentially fatal complication of diabetes.

You're going to be SO surprised! 2 weeks from when you get your kit, you'll look back and wonder what all the nerves were about. I'm not saying the start will be a breeze but it truly won't take long. Many of us had the same fear when we were handed this diagnosis....most of our cats now come running when they hear their case zipper/meter beep/strip container shake. When KT wants an extra treat, he comes and gets me telling me to follow him to his test table! He knows he gets a pokey first but that's no big deal...the treat IS!

HUGS!!!
