Hello all. Very new to all of this.
Pandora who is 8 is newly diagnosed as of the 19th.
They started her on Prozinc.

I am look for the best low carb dry food for my girl that she will actually eat.
Also if continuing chicken and can tuna isn't a good option long term for wet then I need suggestions for wet canned food as well. She likes the broth most of all. Hates the paté of any canned food.

As far as low carb wet food here is our food chart most of us feed 6% carbs preferably lower. I feed 2 or 3 % carbs

I wouldn't feed canned chicken or tuna as a meal

. The only low carb dry foods are Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein Chicken Flavor ,Young Again Zero Carb or Epigen 90. I think they are either 5 or 6% carbs
Very expensive

Would appreciate it if you could tell us about Pandora over here. Many of us don’t visit the Facebook page as we are too busy here and we really need the information over on this page if you don’t mind in the signature.
Then I can tag @FrostD to help you with prizing if you would like that.

Copied from Facebook for those not in the group:

My 8 year old highland lynx/Bengal mix cat Pandora was diagnosed on the 19th with diabetes. We have started a diet change and some insulin. Hoping ro get things under control. We go back Tuesday for a re check. I will talk to my vet then about testing the levels ourselves at home.
She is doing well with the change in eating habits and with the injections. I'm actually super proud of how good she does letting me give her the shots, she was very difficult in the past with any pills she had to take.

She is still having little box trouble though. She has had several accidents peeing in other places over the last few days. Any advice for this problem? Will it quit once her glucose is more regulated? Is it a sign saying hey I'm still not feeling good or is it just accidents that happen with this disease?

Sise note *That is how we discovered she had diabetes. I saw her pee an excessive amount on a basement rug. Then later went to the litter box and was crying and couldn't pee. I assumed she had a uti and called the vet. They tested her urine that I was able to catch a little later when she went a small amount. They said it looks pretty clear and suggested blood work for diabetes.

Added a signature.
Our other cat Triton had urinary issues in the past. He eats Royal Canine Uruguay SO moderate calorie. Hard to keep it from Pandora. Need to change to a low carb for both of them but still a urinary formula for him.
They are picky about wet food. Hate the paté. Need a wet food suggestion for Pandora. She loves the can chicken bit gets tired of it fast.

My male cat had a lot of urine issues years ago. They both eat a moderate calorie Urinary SO dry food. Blue Buffalo tastefuls canned food, and temptation treats. (Pandora doesn't usually care for the wet food)

Since the diabetic diagnosis the treats are gone. The dry food is out all day. In the morning and evening before the insulin injection I put out fresh dry food and some chicken or tuna.
Make sure she eats and then with in an hour give her the insulin.
I think the treats were the problem, it's all she ever wanted. Hoping the elimination of them will help a lot.

The insulin is ProZinc. They gave her 2 units the first day. The next day I was to start 2 units 2 times a day.
She seemed somewhat lethargic after they dosed her and we brought her home. Because of that I have only been giving her 1 unit and she seems to be doing well. Until I join this group didn't realize could test at home, have not got the supplies yet. I thought also it was odd to judt keep giving her the meds with no levels but then thought well the Vet wouldn't tell me to do it if it wasnt safe. It scares me alot that i could give her to much.
Also i was not told if ketones were in the urinalysis or not. Was just told it was not a uti and wanted to do blood work to test for diabetes.
We go back to the vet on Tuesday.
She has not had anymore bathroom accidents since friday morning.

You can test for ketones in the urine yourself buy buying a bottle of Ketostix from a pharmacy and followed the directions on the bottle

If you live in the Is you can buy a ReliOn glucose meter at Walmart for $9 and a box of 100 test strips for $17.88. You will also need a box of 100 lancets size 26 or 28 to prick the ear and some cotton rounds to hold behind the ear to test. I would strongly recommend you hometest the BGs.

What brand/type of food do you buy?
I did check out the chart, it's very overwhelming to me as is all of this information piled on new and at once. I'm trying to absorb it all and make sure I give her the best possible care.
I appreciate the information everyone has provided

Hates the paté of any canned food.
Hate the paté. Need a wet food suggestion for Pandora.
Since she hates Pate you can try
Dr. Lisa's list says:
FANCY FEAST - Roasted/Flaked/Chunky - Chunky Chicken Feast - is 4% carbs.

Just look at the food chart and try any other brands that are below 6% carbs

I'm so sorry. I love animals so much that it hurts me when I see them suffer. I'm not a specialist. However, I found this article https://cutepetcare.com/best-cat-food-for-urinary-issues-non-prescribed-substitutes/ some weeks ago, and I thought it was really good. I even started to give my cat some of the food presented here, and she loves it. Not only that, but I love that they fight different problems that the cats might have over time, and it's a good way of prevention. However, don't forget that no one could help you better than a vet, so it's crucial to see one asap.
