Hello All,

Chloe (f/13) was diagnosed on Friday. BS 370, sugar in urine, kidney function normal. My vet is letting us try wet food for 2 weeks to see if she can reverse it. Chloe was raised on dry food and temptations, she is not a fan of wet. I can get her to eat tuna (really she mainly drinks the broth). I did buy her Orijen freeze dried treats and to my surprise she likes them. I know dry is not ideal, but I would like to know if anyone here sparingly uses dry (just a bit), and if so, what are your favorite brands? Any help will be appreciated, along with prayers for a reversal so we don't have to do insulin - has anyone here bee lucky enough to reverse with diet? Thanks, Andrea

Have you seen this, by Dr. Lisa Pierson? http://felinediabetes.com/TipsforTransitioningPDF12-18-09.pdf

Lots of tips for transitioning to wet food there. Some cats are really stubborn!

If you are in the US, there are a couple of low-carb dry foods. Young Again is one (available directly from the company), more recently Dr. Elsey's has introduced a line called "Clean Protein" that is available online from Chewy and possibly in some brick-and-mortar petstores. As you note, dry is not ideal for lots of reasons, but at least with these brands it's not adding carb fuel to the diabetic fire....
