Copper had a really good day. Switched my meter last night to Relion Micro meter because my old meter(freedom freestyle lite) was 100pts less on coininsided samples with alpha track. Also, his urine should 1000+glucose. So didn't make sense if he was in the 200 why he was responding very well. Test with Relion meter and coininsided samples with alpha track and comparable. When test with the freedom meter, it measured consistenly 100pts below. Interesting sidenote: I test my own blood side by side with freedom meter and relion meter and they were comparable. So human wise it is ok, but not for a cat. Also, Relion meter so much cheaper for strips. So very confident with Relion meter.

Dr. P is still advising on dosage and we were very happy with results today. Went up to 2u and he responded well. Mostly, clinically he was like a new cat this pm. He went outside in yard all afternoon and chased squirrels, hunted moles and played with my other cat. He was so much more alert and eyes looked better. He was actually jumping up on things, which i haven't seen him do in a long time. His neuropathy still is bad, but looked a little stronger in legs today. He seemed stronger even in his meow. Much more like my old copper back again.

All in all, he is doing great in his testing. His ears are sore, but still lets me poke at them and prrr's. What a great, mellow cat. i can't even stand my finger pricked once. Hate he has to go through all this. Just keep praying that he will heal fast. But i know it takes time. Patience has never been my forte. Guess i'm learning how to get more...UGH>.....

Well just was checking in and letting you see Copper's progress....

Thank you for the update, Lori, and it sounds like things are going very well. It is important to remember to look at the "whole cat". It isn't all about just numbers on a spreadsheet. Trust your eyes, and when you see him acting like he's feeling good, believe him.... he is. The changes - improvements - in the behavior when it improves are sometimes fairly rapid changes.
I will definitely defer to Dr. P. on dosing, since you are in close communication with her and I am sure she has a more complete picture of the overall situation than we do because you can pass on so much information with a phone call, and I am sure she knows exactly what to ask.
I am happy right now to be able to sit back and "watch", because I am learning stuff every day here. Keep us posted!
The experience you are getting is going to be so valuable as you move forward. One day, it'll be you advising instead of being advised. Never thought I would be, but here I am every day doing just that. Keep good notes!

Thanks for the great update.

Doesn't it make your heart happy when they start acting like themselves again.

Paws crossed that you continue to see improvements every day.
