Doogle has been doing great lately and had a couple of really low numbers, so we were down to 1.75u. But he had what looked like an eye infection so we put 2 drops of Neobacimyx-H (Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic) and now his numbers are up the past 2 cycles. Now we have only done the 2 drops since I saw the numbers go up, I stopped them. I am only using eye wash now. Could those 2 drops raise his BG that quickly? Also how long will it take for it to get out of his system. He was doing so well and now I am afraid I have screwed things up.

1) Infection always has the potential to raise glucose.

2) Eye drops will drain from the eye into the sinuses, then into the esophagus. The majority of the effect will be local, however some systemic absorption may happen.

3) There is a steroid in the drops - dexamethasone. Steroids are notorious for increasing glucose in anyone, much less a diabetic. While the dose may have been low, some cats may be especially sensitive to those effects.

4) If the cat has a condition which requires steroid treatment, you treat and adjust the insulin dose around it.

Hi Donna
I'm sure you already know this, but if the gels seem to be soothing, they have the same ones but without the steroid.

Thanks for all the answers, I appreciate it! His eye cleared up with just the eye wash, so luckily it wasnt an eye infection it seems. His BG came down so it was probably a bounce and maybe the drops (I cant remember if I gave it before his PM shot or not....LOL).
