I had posted this to the main forum, and probably should have put it here:

This is within range with no Prozinc injections. I'm a little stymied. Saturday morning he came in at 328 pre-feeding, so he got his usual .5 injection.

Sat AM: 328 - shot
Sat PM: 205
Sun AM - 135
Sun PM - 155
Mon AM - 110

He is being fed consistently every 6 hours and testing is prior to eating.

I don't know if this is good or bad. I'm expecting a high reading tonight. Is the basis of giving insulin shots to keep them on an even keel (no highs, no lows), or is it okay I haven't given him a shot for a while. I have sent the number to our vet for her take on it. I waited until this morning because I didn't know if my DD had given him a shot at 135 (and was praying she hadn't -- she didn't).

The numbers do look good.
Some of the numbers you diffently wouldn't want to give insulin into.
You don't have any numbers in between? That would give a bigger picture of how/what the BG is doing through out the day.

For example just do a random test sometime during the day. Since you haven't given any insulin.

How long has your daughter been giving insulin?

Let me be sure I understand correctly-- the last shot was Sat morning? If so, then Congrats! By chance was Neo on Dry food and now has been switched to wet? A change to wet food can have a tremendous impact.

I have a foster cat (mine probably!) that is named Chewy. His SS is attached in my signature. He was on dry and was changed to wet. He had/has numbers very similar to Neo. He is not in the green numbers-- below 100-- but, he is staying in the low 100s without insulin. I drew a line in the sand and said I would micro dose him if he reached 160. I am not encouraging you to do that--- that was just my decision for Chewy. But, I encourage you to look at his SS. I need to add the data for the last couple of days-- but his situation sounds very much like Neos. Chewy has had NO insulin for 225 hours! I am waiting him out and testing daily to see which way he decides to go!

The low 100s are not dangerous numbers, but I would not want Neo to go into the high 100s (180 range) or 200s without a token small dose. Just be VERY CAREFUL if you do try to micro dose into any numbers that Neo has, because it appears his pancreas is working and producing insulin, just not quiet enough to push the numbers lower. You must take the pancreas and the insulin it is producing into account when shooting the lower numbers!

I do agree with Jenn--- can you get some mid cycle tests?

One good test is --- test Neo--- feed him and wait 40 mins to an hour and see if the numbers are coming down. When functioning the pancreas is stimulated to produce insulin upon eating-- -if you get a lower number within 40 mins to an hour after feeding, it is a fair assumption that the pancreas is working some. And, from your numbers posted--- it does appear to be working, at least some!

Did any of that make sense?! If not---just say so and I will make another attempt to explain it!

It makes sense-- he is on such a small dose (.5) it would be hard to micro dose lower since our needles only have the full numbers on them (1 unit, 2 units, etc.)

Neo was being fed 1/6 can of Friskies pate in the morning and free-fed on dry food the rest of the time, so the majority of what he ate was dry.

We'll try testing more often on the weekend -- my DD has better luck getting blood from him (as he is her cat -- we live together, she had him 7 years before we built a house together about 6 years ago). If I'm the blood drawer when she's not home DH will hold him and I do the sticking (who said women were the weaker sex?)

I'm hoping that most of Neo's levels can be maintained with feeding the wet food. We will probably switch him over to Fancy Feast eventually, but decided to keep him on the Friskies as that is what he usually gets.

I suspect he'd like the Fancy Feast as well -- I think I had bought a few cans a while back and they thought it was Christmas. :-D bcatrun_gif :RAHCAT

 I noticed that mine wern't eating well, eating but not enough so I did a FF test and opened one can, it was gone in 20 minutes so now I mix a can of FF into the Sophisticat and they are eating better.

I'm guessing you might need to pick up some of the u100 syringes, you will then have lines for .2u and I was eyeballing .1u and .05u at the end....they are tiny but can be done.
