Hi,
we have not completed all the checks on her (teeth, blood, etc), but we have little hope that we will avoid insulin. She is constantly around 300. So we start studying the plan.
I assume the obvious choice is to go on with Lantus which worked for her the first time.
Sticking to the "low and slow" principle, and checking the dosage from back then, I would feel comfortable to start at 0.5U BID and take it from there.
-Any suggestions on the dose?
-Anyone with specific experience on returning to Lantus after a long remission (2.5 years for Nefeli)?
thanks

here's your last condo

during the remission phase, were you continuing with the canned low carb food, or was there dry food in the picture?

i haven't dealt with remission personally, but a lot of people have. hopefully someone with that experience will comment for you.

95% of the time it was wet, low-carb. I have to admit that for practical reasons, a couple of times that we were out of town she had dry food for a few days.

that could be what did it. once a cat is diabetic, they might become diet-controlled, but they remain diabetic and can never again have high carbs.

celi/binks had exactly the same thing happen recently - i think Binks was only back on insulin for maybe a month or 6 weeks (but i'm not promising that's right) before he went off again. it wasn't very long, anyway.

i've asked for some others to come give you advice as well.
