needle getting hard to go in

i've been at this for about two months now i believe. the needle usually glides in but lately it's been stopping against the skin and feels like i really have to jam it in there if i want to get it in. is that normal?
it's made it increasingly harder to give roxy her shot when this happens.

Do you try shooting in different areas? Good luck! Maybe others will have better suggestions.

You are using a new syringe each time, right? Are you shooting with the bevel of the needle facing up? My kitty eventually developed some scar tissue (after years) where I was shooting around his scruff, so I started shooting on his flanks and rotating the sides (left in the morning and Right at Night).

Better to NOT shoot in the same area repeatedly. The syringe should be at an angle so it goes in just under the skin. I just spread the fur & shoot into the top layer of skin I don't "Pinch" the skin together.

What type & size syringes are you using? For insulin we use 31 gauge ,8mm (5/16") Length needle 3/10ml Syringe I use the Relion Insulin Syringes. (A lot of people here use this syringe.)
Yes, as Dyana said, you need to use a new syringe each time. It should not be difficult to inject the insulin.

Look at the tip of a new needle, maybe you have bad needles. One on a U40 syringe the needle was cut square off with no bevel.

yes, i use a new needle each time. the needles look fine and beveled. i was rotating around her scruff then i tried the chest like in the diagram and she still hated it. idk she doesn't even want me touching her when it comes time now. the past few days she's freaked out and won't let me do it. i had to force her this morning. she used to be good at it idk what I'm doing wrong.

I am using BD 31 gauge "needles" and I thought they were not tapered. Looked blunt. Just checked and these are so fine, I could not see that tapered bevel until the flattened part shined in the light.
They are specifically for U-100 insulin. Read recently that the insulin and the syringe need to be compatible.
Mine go in like butter. Please tell us the brand and size you are using.
