mr biddles isnt well. 14 months of unregulated diabetes has taken a toll on both of us.

Its been awful and i'm sapped. His leg weakness has escalated so now he gets poop on himself lately almost every time he poops. Xrays showed constipation so on miralax and well you can imagine. I'm contemplating this is the downward spiral. I cant keep this up. He hasnt purred at all latley. I'm hanging in by a thread. I'm starting to think about euthanasia. I dont want to do it and maybe he still can get better but we'v ebeen slogging away at this for so long. Neither of us sleep well anymore.

I'm so sorry you feel you're at the end of your tether, Jen. A short while ago you'd booked an appointment with a different vet but ended up cancelling. Might this not be something to try before completely losing hope?

Oh Jen, I'm sorry to hear things are going so poorly for you and Mr. Biddles. What is causing his leg weakness? Has he been checked for potassium deficiency? Maybe a switch to a different insulin would help him become better regulated? I looked over his 2016 ss and it seemed like he did a little better while on Lantus. I understand your frustration and exhaustion, and I hope things can improve for both you and Mr. Biddles. We're all here for you!

I'm sorry to hear Mr. Biddles isn't doing so well. Sometimes it is worth it to just wait and see if things clear up. Humans and cats don't always get better fast, it may just take awhile. We had multiple issues with our different cats. Mostly they cleared up, but some issues did take awhile. Hoping Mr.Biddles and you are feeling a bit better tonight.

Can I ask if you are giving sub q's at home? If he has early ckd he might be dehydrated causing the constipation. Sub q's are easy to do and help them feel so much better and you can put the b12 injection right into the line.

Nevermind i see in your signature you do give sub q's. How much do you give and how often?

thanks all. its been rough. i was in an awful place the other night. resurfacing now.

labwork results: turns out we've got a bunch of stuff going on. his thyroid was hyper a few weeks ago. did an increase of his meds. now he is almost hypo, so thats not helping anything. kidney values are worse but could be related. other bloodwork markers were not great, but with thyroid low (on top of hyperglycemia) that could be contributing a lot.

the thing is now his potassium is on the low end - actually just a hair away from clinically being low. per usual, my vet who was in touch with me right away is now not responding to me. i have asked her if a supplement would help.

also he had some WBC in his urine. she has not answered my question what that is about.

i'm going to post new topic regarding potassium.

Complicated picture but you have some issues to point to now and hopefully they can be treated.

If you need to supplement potassium, it is easy and relatively inexpensive. There are a few different brands, my vet recommended Vetoquinol Renal K, it comes in a gel and a powder. Squallie has been getting the powder mixed into his food for over a year, he's been fine with it.
