My civvie cat was loving on the Fancy Feast until recently, when she decided that it is now beneath her. Can everyone please provide their top 5 irresistible, all time favorite US brands and flavors (other than FF)? Hoping not to have to go through 100 new brands and varieties to find something her majesty will eat -- though I know that every cat is different. That's why we love them.

Thanks

1. Jack In The Box Chicken Sandwich
2. Butter......on anything, including in a closed tub 'cause they figured out if they knock it on the floor, the lid pops off and they can lick to their heart's content
3. Chicken........raw, just home from the store and on it's way to the freezer while mom runs out to the car to get the rest of the groceries.
4. Pill Pockets.....even in the bag is fine. it too can be chewed thru
5. Earwigs.....despite pinching them repeatedly, they are determined to slap them into oblivion and then introduce them to stomach acid

 :-D @-) :o

i couldn't help it. i have fortunately been blessed with cats that will eat pretty much anything given the chance.

i do though prefer raw, anything. i baked a chicken for instance a couple days ago and i swear you would have thought i was standing in front of a firing squad what with all the cats salivating around me waiting for that stuff stuck inside the bird that i cut up for them.

financially though raw is mostly a treat around my house. i do mostly friskies as it works for carbs and phosphorous in my house and opening any more cans of food than i do already would kill me so those little FF cans are out for me

After that tainted cat food from China problem in 2007, I started feeding my boys Friskies, as that was not manufactured in China.

Now, I feed them a lot of Friskies Pates, since they like Friskies, and it's more affordable than FF. (FF Classics are lower in carbs, and my cats love them, too.)

If budget wasn't a concern, Stella & Chewy's Freeze Dried Raw would be a regular diet. Now, they get the little nuggets as treats, and you should see them both come running when I shake the bag.

Early on, my boys both liked the EVO 95% foods, as well.

And they love the Trader Joe's Tuna for Cats, but they don't get this very often.

Hope you find something to entice Ninja!

Tip and Christmas like whiskas and Special Kitty here. Friskies is great too, but they get bored of it quick anymore. I'm not sure how the Special Kitty will be liked though, because it's a lot like Fancy Feast.

my civvie eats wellness chicken and wellness turkey
before patches was put to sleep they ate EVO 95% chicken/turkey

Love this!!! LOL!! I guess I should have specified COMMERCIAL CAT FOOD. But at this point, I am willing to try the earwigs if I could get enough of them to make a pate. Thanks for the laugh.

My diabetic ate mainly NV Instinct chicken and turkey with the following rotated in: Innova EVO cat/kitten, Innova EVO 95% ( I think all of them except venison), ProPlan (2 seafood varieties), Weruva (one seafood and one chicken), GO! Natural, SOrganics (no longer available), Before Grain back when it was the supplemental 100% meat/fish only.

My two civies eat NV frozen raw. One civie gets a little NV Instinct canned or Weruva canned or pouch before bed time.

mocha eats special kitty, turkey and giblets is her all time favorite .. she had to eat chicken once or twice, when they were out .. and she let us know clearly she was not a fan .. but would suffer through it ..

fwiw, i'll add mozzarella to my list if it helps :-)

made a margherita pizza tonight and foster kitty kept trying to steal my mozzarella

We managed to get Saul down to normal levels with nothing more than a diet change (I know how fortunate this is!) with Merrick Before Grain. He is however, extremely picky and only likes the chicken or chicken and quail flavor (tossed about 50.00 worth of beef, salmon, tuna, and turkey) so we're going to try Wellness Core as well and see if he likes any of those flavors.

The problem with Saul is that he's been on some kind of generic dry food for a long time and it's like weaning him off of McDonalds. He tries to go for the dog's dry food to no avail.

Scooter got tired of cheap heavy byproduct/liver foods like Friskies, Special Kitty, etc. very fast. He LOVES Special Kitty Select (FF equivalent) duck flavor. I don't know if there is actually a FF duck flavor. Other than that, he loves Wellness turkey, and raw chicken breast.

Cindy,

Pumbaa and the Drooler both love cheese, of any kind. I swear that Pumbaa would eat doggie doo-doo if I sprinkled Parmesan on it! But they love Cheddar (extra sharp) and Swiss and Mozzerella and Feta, too.

I found that the best way to try out canned foods is to buy just one can from a few different brands. Then I would put a small spoonful from each can into separate bowls and let my cat sniff them and sample whatever he found was tasty. Whatever was snubbed, I crossed off my list of "to try foods" and the remainder of the can was given to a friend whose two cats will eat anything. By trying food this way, you're not spending $$ on multiple cans or a case of a particular brand/variety only to find out that your cat won't eat it.

Dry foods are coated with animal digest which is really really tasty to cats. You can duplicate the effect on canned food by using FortiFlora. Or try finely crushing up some freeze dried meat treats and smushing it on top of the canned food.

Very clever! A blind taste test for cats. I will try this!

:-D :-D :-D I did that when I first got Tess and she went down the line and cleaned every bowl! Since then she is pickier.

Wellness Turkey is well liked here and if you buy it in the 12oz cans about the same $$ as FF. NV Organic Raw Chicken is the top of the list.

Watch out, the Special Kitty Turkey & Giblets formula might contain rice flour and ground corn! The ones at my Walmart (Canada) do! It is, as far as I could tell, the ONLY flavor that did.

Always, always read the can, even if someone (including charts) tell you something is low carb... sometimes formulas change and we are not warned beforehand.

In addition to the contraban Kitt-N-Kaboodle dry, Grayson seems to like:
1. Purina Lamb & Rice dry dog food
2. Egg noodles (any brand)
3. Anything in the cupboard he can pull out (Dogs happy to assist with any opening of boxes/bags)
4. Anything in a Tupperware cannister (2 different kinds of lids)
5. Anything left on a plate in the kitchen sink!

I like the sampling idea... but I believe Grayson would eat all the samples and then proceed to empty each can. Funny, the initial transition to canned was fought tooth & nail, but once he decided it was okay, he'll eat anything I put in front of him (or his siblings!)

Shadow really likes the bonita flakes crumbled up and sprinkled if she's hesitant to eat something.

and I've started rehydrating the PureBites shrimp. put 4 or so in a tiny dish with just a couple of drops of water and they
are all soft and squishy again.

I went thru all my old friskies cans yesterday because I knew SOME of them were the right kind and found a few pate's.
Shadow was very happy to get a friskie's can again today.
She hadn't had any friskies since we started this sugardance.

and hey, I sent you an email a day or two ago. guess you haven't checked your email....

LOL!! You are so right!! Food placed neatly in cat bowl on floor = bad. Food dried up on plate in kitchen sink = good. LOL!! Hmmm...maybe I need to relocate the cat bowls.
