There's a Catster.com bean who posted for help with her diabetic cat. The cat is on 10 units BID of ProZinc and is eating low carb canned. No idea when DX was made but first post says that cat has been going to the vet for the past few weeks for bg testing. The bean is not hometesting. BGs have dropped from 600s to 400s. The bean has been advised to request acromegaly/cushings and IAA testing to rule out any medical condition that may be causing the huge amount of insulin. And bean has been told about rebound and about FDMB and to post here for more advice.

Are there Ohio members here who can recommend a vet? I can repost the vet recommendation on Catster.

Edit: Cat started at 2 units BID and dose was increased 2 units each week to the current 10 units. On strict low carb canned food diet, no treats at all except the occasional mouse.

I'm in Bowling Green, 30-40 miles from Toledo. I use a Bowling Green vet with a very small practice, small and large animal. Vet Vicky was very willing to work with me and learn while treating Maggie. I've also been to another BG vet who seems good. I don't have much first hand knowledge of Toledo vets.

I've heard only good things about Sylvania Vet (Sylvania, Ohio). http://www.sylvaniavet.com/toledo/

There is a cat only hospital, Cat Tails (off Airport Highway, Toledo), that works with the rescue group I got Erik and Emme from. I visited once: http://cattalesthecatclinic.com/

I had a very bad experience with South Suburban Animal Clinic (Perrysburg, OH) and would avoid them.

I hope this helps!

Edited to add: I'd be happy to help them learn to home test.
