I just recently moved here. I still bring my cat to the vet near where I used to live (in Bergen County, NJ) but if there's a vet that knows a lot about diabetes around here, then that would be helpful. I want to start home testing him and a vet's help (or anyone who knows what they are doing for that matter) would be nice!

Could you call around and do mini interviews with the vets in your area to see which ones seem more knowledgeable? Start asking were you work etc. I have recently decided to switch vets because mine just isn't cutting it anymore. I started just talking in general about it. I was surprised to find out how many people locally had diabetic cats. I was able to get some info on local vets.

A good place to ask also is a local cat shelter. They seem to know all the vets and who is good at what and always willing to help. If you have a non kill cat shelter in your area start with them for advice for a vet in your area. the volunteers that run these places really do seem to know the best vets.

Hi jjjanieam, and, of course, you too, sweet Pasquale,

How far into Rockland County are you? I'm in Northern NJ and, unfortunately, have a very iffy car... But, if you're not too far north of the NJ/NY state line, perhaps I could teach you how to home test... Please let me know, okay?

Encouraging hugs for you and Pasquale,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

PS: I don't know any vets up there either. But, I know two gems in Bergen County...
