Need U100 needle clarification...

I'm still confused about the u100 needles. I went to Walgreens tonight and they had needles as described below, but it didnt say u100 anywhere on the box.

GAUGE 31
LENGTH 8 mm (5/16")
SHORT NEEDLE

What does u100 mean and if the above info is correct, then why isn't u100 printed on box? U40 is listed on the box for the u40 syringes that I got from the vet's office. Also, in the link to the thread about u100 needles, would either of the u100 needles pictured be sufficient or just the one with the orange cap and cover?

Putting your reply here, Bookworm, in case someone else has the same question.

U100 (& U40) refer to the intended insulin concentration. That's why you need a conversion chart to use u100 needles with.u40 prozinc. u40 needles traditionally have a red cap & u100 orange. The color of the other end depends on the brand.

What you really need to look for are needles with half unit markings. If you buy them.at a regular pharmacy they should be u100s but they don't all have the.half units. I buy.mine at walmart; in most states you.don't need a prescription, although they're probably behind.the count er.

So as long as the info is as was listed above and the syringes have orange caps and they have 1/2 unit marking, all should be well?

BD syringes [10 syringes/bag] have

10 sterile single use syringes for U100 insulin

on the front of the bag. To be sure I got the right syringe, the Pharmacist took out a bag to show me exactly how the syringe looked. I needed to have the 1/2 unit markings on the syringe too. Along with my information of the type of syringe I needed, I also printed up a copy of the syringe barrel to compare. Worked perfectly.
