Need to get Loki back on a regular schedule

Yes, I think that should be fine. If you are feeling nervous, try Robin's skinny one. That means pulling up one unit and letting a drop out so it is just a tiny bit less than one. Whatever you are comfortable with. Test when you get back.

Quick question if I gave Loki's 1 unit this morning 2 hrs late because of his #'s, should I give it to him tonight at +12 which would be 2 hrs later than last night?
I think so but wanted to double check with you guys
Thanks

Good plan on the test at +2. Loki should go up from the food, and you should see a number you can give some insulin on.

If I'd been on to respond, I would have suggested testing at +10, which you did. And I would have suggested that you not feed, and check at +11 to see if the BG had come up. That would have indicated that the morning dose was petering out, and you might have been able to feed and shoot at +11.

If you get a number at two hours after this meal that you feel comfortable shooting, AND you would like to be able to get back to your normal shot timing, then you may be able to give a reduced dose tonight. That may give you a "shootable" number at your normal AMPS time in the morning.

He has been getting 1 to 1 1/2 units so for a reduced I would give 1/2 of 1 unit then?
Thanks I know I am still somewhat nervous with this and I appreciate your help.

I think that a half a unit would do the trick.

If you are nervous about the dose all you have to do is a test to see where he is, if you are nervous about the advise you can ask whatever questions you have and we will try to explain our thinking.

Always ask whatever questions you have as they come up. The more you understand this process the more confident you will feel.

1/2 unit would be good to try. Assuming you see a number north of 200, of course.

So sorry I did not see your last post Sue, but I was so tired went right to bed.
But today is a new day and I am sure I did something wrong last night to mess up Loki, because this morning he is at 65 just fed him. And of course today I will be gone most of the afternoon. ohmygod_smile

Whoa! He is full of surprises. I think we definitely need to reduce his dose. He is getting really long cycles. No shot of course and we'll need to figure out what to give tonight.

All a little nerve wracking, but still really good news, Michelle. He is reacting really well to the insulin. It just would be nice if we could figure out a dose that you could shoot twice a day.

I was just thinking the same thing and I am under pressure with this as I have to go back to work soon. What in the world could be doing this now. He went from 4 units 2Xs per day to now at 1 unit or 1 1/2 units and his time is off. No ketones just checked again, eating well, drinking ok no excess at all there normal, playing and lovey just his normal personality.
Eating FF all at less than 4 carbs, no dry at all, bonito flakes at test time which he loves. I need Sherlock Holmes to help with this one.
Will be testing soon to see where he is at now that he has eaten and update my SS.
Thanks so much for being there.

Most likely a combination of eliminating dry food and the insulin working well for his body. With some cats, there is a real adjustment period. We have had posters come back after several months and say that their cat is suddenly getting good numbers and what should they do?

We will get this figured out. I know it seems unpredictable, but it is so much better than his being in really high numbers.

Can you start a new thread with this am's number? This one is getting long.
