Hi,
Can anyone, would anyone, please look at Hank's SS and let me know what you think if I should up his dosage to 1.50u or not? Why does he have such high pre shot numbers? Still haven't got him eating wet food yet. I'm going to try more this weekend. Just wondering, how long can I with hold his food if I offer the wet and he refuses? I think Hank knows if he waits long enough I'll pour him some dry kibble. Thanks

Kimmie

Hi there,we have talked before and I'm glad to see you now have Hank on Prozinc.I am also a newbie with dosing too,but I took a look at your SS and really he has only been on prozinc for 7 full days and doing so much better than the previous numbers on the old insulin.Remember..low and slow.Someone will be by soon to advise you..the only thing I can tell you is to watch out for the dry food diet maybe keeping his numbers up a bit.Just keep trying to squeeze in a little low carb wet.Even freeze dried raw or something that is crunchy, since he seems to prefer crunch.Dont be discouraged..his numbers are slowly dropping and you are doing a great job!Did you try sprinkling on some Forti- flora,or crumbling his dry food up on top of the wet? Also when I weaned my kitty off dry food,I sneaked a little bit of pieces of cooked chicken in with the dry and it seems to get them used to eating it when it is mixed.Of course he might be real clever and pick those pieces out of his dish ,lol.

Hi Kimmie,

I really think he is bouncing - that is certainly what your curve looked like. He dropped down into the blues and then up for preshot. Did you try feeding in that 2/3 hour time frame, saving some of the food from his morning feed? My thinking is that if we can get the cycle to flatten out and not dip sthat low that fast, his pre shots wouldn't be such a big bounce. Bouncing is very frustrating but if cats are going to bounce, they bounce until they stop. Some people call it liver training - that is, the liver has to learn that those blues are not something to panic about, but are good numbers. I think I have mentioned Bookw0rm's spreadsheet - Cassie bounced for a year or so, and then finally settled down. Now Lisa is giving tiny doses and he is looking great.

You could try a small increase. What you may see is that he drops lower and so the bounce is still there and possibly higher. Or more insulin may help things. The only way to find out is to try it. I would not increase by much, maybe .25

Yes, I've tried forti flora and dried food crumbs. I have 2 different kinds of freeze dried chicken and he won't touch them. I think I will boil a chicken breast and try that.

Yes, Sue, I'm feeding a little at shot and then again at +2 or +3but just a little. I think it is helping cause he hasn't' dipped at +4 since.

I don't think I will change dosage at least for a couple of days. Tomorrow we will be gone most of the day so I won't be able to monitor much. Then on Monday I work 10am- 6pm. I want to be able to monitor Hank and not worry while I'm gone.

So Sue, do you think it's best if I just stay at 1.25u? Cause I'm ok with that. I just wondered if I went a little higher if maybe the pre shots would get out of the 400's.

Thanks,
Kimmie

It sounds like it won't work well to change the dose in the next couple days because you can't monitor. So I think staying with 1.25 is fine. Just data gathering, right?

I feel like you'd be okay staying at 1.25 for now. He gets good numbers mid cycle. I'd guess you'll be good for a day or two. When you can monitor, going up 0.25 might help.
