My boy Grady had a vet visit today and, long story short, he has been started on Tapazole for hyperthyroidism. My vet, who after today is no longer my vet, couldn't answer me how treating his hyperthyroidism would impact his diabetes. Been trying all afternoon to research this. Can anyone point me to websites or articles that I can read? Is anyone else out there dealing with this situation too?

Tapazole helps block the effects of too much thyroid hormone. It should reduce the heart rate, respiration, and blood pressure closer to normal, along with reducing the appetite somewhat because the calorie demand to run everything on "high" is no longer necessary.

With a reduction in calorie intake, you may need less insulin; testing will identify that for you. Be sure to get nadir tests around +5 to +7 hours after injection of the Lantus.

Thank you, thank you BJM!

this is just the Info I was looking for....I will watch his 5-7 hr BGs more closely now.
