Hello everyone! Hope you're all doing lovely. I am in searching for a few opinions regarding Jinx's #'s for the past 2-3 weeks. He was holding amazingly on 2 units of lantus (2x day) until I noticed some preshots were kind of low. My vet recommended reducing his dose to 1.5 (2x day) and I did. A few days before this, I also took away his "pm dry" and replaced it with wet food. I think this may have had something to do with the low preshot numbers. Anyways, we hit a day where he dipped into the 40's and remained there for a good amount of the day and I decided to lower his dose to 1 unit (2x day). This seemed to be a perfect number for Jinx; his preshots weren't terribly low anymore. I notified the vet after collecting some data and due to his glucose curve last Sunday (5/28), she wants me to lower his dose to .5 units (2x a day). I, on the other hand, wasn't too concerned about his +6 number on the curve being a 43, especially considering he was active & playful throughout the day and the numbers steadily increased perfectly. However, she seemed extremely concerned about the 43. On Monday 5/22, a different vet called (my usual had the day off) and wanted me to do a 24 hour no insulin test to see if Jinx was possibly going into remission - I opted to not do this because I didn't feel as if he was low enough for him to be slipping into remission and I didn't want to NOT give him insulin and risk him lingering in high numbers for the day. Anyways, I guess I'm just questioning the .5 drop - I feel as if he's doing fine on 1 unit. If I test the .5 shots for a few days, will that knock him out of regularity he seems to be having on 1 unit?

edit: I do not feel comfortable trying a .25/.75 dose until I can get my hands on needles that have .5 markers (which has been somewhat of a pain but I'm working on finding a pharmacy that carries them ).

Sorry you had to wait so long for a response. I suggest you post on the Lantus forum. I suspect they'll suggest that you decrease his dose a bit because of the recent lime green.
