My cat threw up her food literally a few minutes before her shot because she strained pooping. She’ll likely her some more if I give her some. What should I do in this situation with her shot? Fwiw, her pmps was 406. She just threw up AGAIN after pooping AGAIN. It’s diarrhea. I’m really not sure what to do here.

she’s done it 3-4 times in last couple weeks. She seems to be straining when she poops and causing her to throw up.

she did eat a little more already. Should I test again in a few minutes and giver her shot?
If you don’t think she will eat well in the next two hours, you can always give a 1/2 dose.
You have a couple of hours to get some food into her before onset.
It looks like she could be bouncing from the blue BGs 2 days ago and could come off the bounce any time.

She ate a few tablespoons of food already and has kept it down. Not sure what you mean by “before onset”? So should I test her now and shoot if numbers are good?

Have you taken the preshot BG yet? Remember it has to be taken before food.
As she has just eaten, take it now if you haven’t already done so.
Before onset means before the current dose of insulin starts to work.

Then you are ok to give the dose of insulin.
Thank you for the help, I wasn’t sure what to do since she threw up her food right before her shot. Gave her normal dose. Should I check her BS tonight? If so, when, @ +4?

Is there a good way to transition to an earlier dosing time? Because of two different stalls this week, my dosing time has went from 7:30 to now 8:45. I’d really like it to be at least 7:30 again, maybe even 7:00.

It’s really strange with her tummy issues lately. About 3 weeks ago (about a week before her diabetes diagnosis) I had changed her wet food for 2 days as I ran out of her normal food. Got her back on the normal food on day 3 but then she had diarrhea for 4 days. The next night she tried to go but very little came out (diarrhea), then she threw up right after (12/11). Then on 12/12 I took her in as a precaution and they gave her metronidazole for 10 days. The next day (12/13) she went back in and was diagnosed with diabetes (coincidence??). She was on the metronidazole for 10 days and pooped fine up until 12/26 where she threw up after pooping. Then between 12/27-12/28 she pooped 4 different times. She threw up after the 3rd one and then the 4th was diarrhea, the other 3 were normal. Then from 12/29 to today, she had a few normal poops, then the diarrhea tonight. I don’t understand what’s wrong. It’s the straining that’s causing the throwing up but it doesn’t happen every time she poops. I have an appointment with an internist on Wednesday but she may go in tomorrow if it keeps going like this.

To transition to an earlier time you can go back 15 mi utes each cycle it 1/2 hour once a day.
The tummy issues could be from the transition to new food if you did it too fast.

Well I did change it abruptly for two days but switched back. But that was 3 weeks ago and she was on metronidazole for 10 days, it seemed to clear up. Now its happening on and off the last week. I'm lost and hopefully can get an answer. She also seems to be starting to dislike her current wet food. i wonder if shes smart enough and thinks correlates the food to a bad tummy so she's starting to reject it.

I would try to add some probiotics to her diet. S Boulardii is a great one for the GI tract and bowel movements
I'm not sure. It happened again this morning. Pooped a grape size but was straining for about a minute to get it out, then threw up. Then about an hour later, when and pooped and was all diarrhea, but fortunate did not throw up. We're going to the vet as a precaution. I'm willing to bet that I'm going to spend several hundred dollars to just be sent home with more metronidazole because they didn't find anything, just like before. Its unfortunate of the timing because I have an appointment with an internist Wednesday morning and I didn't want to go back to this vet if I could help it but I thing diarrhea and throwing up 3 times in 12 hours is not good.

What is the consistency of the feces after straining? Maybe constipation is causing the regurgitation. If constipated then I would do something like at Polyethylene glycol 3350 (MiraLAX is one brand name but there are generics which are less expensive). I use the generics.

I type the above before you last comment. The grape size followed later by diarrhea could bean constipation since liquid can go around the blockage in the intestines.

Well they've been inconsistent the last week. Some have been perfectly normal. One time I found 3 really small pieces so I thought constipation and gave a couple doeses of miralax. Then yesterday she had a normal bowel movement, but went to diarrhea again last night and today. The diarrhea is soft serve consistency, may slightly more water then that. But not pure liquid. With this happened 3 weeks ago, they ruled out constipation based on xrays and ultrasound. We'll see what the vet says today, headed there now.
