hi my cats name is sam and she is eight years old. she became diabetic in oct and was put on caninuslin twice a day at 2 units and did not do well on it, she was not feeling good because of the big drops. so change to lantus. she eats tc feline raw and evo wet plus fancy feast low carb food. she is about 12.5 pounds she was 14.5 but lost weight, she should be around 10 pounds. she is always hungry and she pee's a lot. she does feel better on lantus but still not as active as she once was. i cannot get her numbers down, am i giving to much insulin or not enough? someone please help me i am confused. i do check for ketones but never had any. she gets her shots at 9:30 am and 9:30 pm. i attached her sheet with all the numbers on it. i hope someone can figure this out because i feel so bad for my cat.

just so everyone knows my cat has been on amitripline for about 4 years for rolling skin symdrome, she is on a very low dose 1/8 of a pill every two days. this seems to help her and if we decrease she get rolling skin again and runs around the house like there is something on her. she had all blood work done and ruled everything else out.

Hi,
Wanted to let you know that I posted in the Lantus forum and asked someone to come and take a look.

I did have a bit of trouble with your SS. It looks like the "US" page isn't up to date but the "world" page is. One thing though. Instead of putting the dose info on the far left column (it took me a while to realize it was there), that's what the "U" column next to the AMPS and PMPS are for. Having your world sheet set up "different" could be the reason the US sheet stopped updating itself. Not a huge deal, but just wanted to make people looking aware of it.

Is this where you got the template you're using? Spreadsheet directions If not, that could be why you're having trouble.

You noted that Sam had a UTI and was given an antibiotic. How was the UTI diagnosed? Did the vet take a sterile urine sample (i.e., a cystocentesis) and run a culture and sensitivity (C & S) test to make sure the appropriate antibiotic was being used? Typically, the cysto is repeated 2 weeks after the antibiotics are stopped. Typically, you'd see a drop in numbers after a couple of days on the antibiotic if the medication is working on the infection. There's no indication that the antibiotic did anything. You may need to get a cysto and C & S run and make sure the infection has been cleared out. Otherwise, if the infection is still brewing, you will need more insulin.

At the moment, it looks like Sam isn't getting enough insulin.

I read that amitriptyline can raise (or lower) blood glucose levels. That could be going on here. You may want to ask your vet about this.

However I would be interested to see a few more recent PMPS readings after PMPS +3 in case she is dropping low then.

i know it can affect sugar levels but this is a medication she needs. it was the only thing that helped her as we tried 4 other kinds of medication. i will try to get some numbers after +3 tonight for you. thanks for your help it is very depressing that i can't get her regulated.

Ok cool but i would talk to your vet about it. It might just be that the dose of insulin will need to be higher but let's see what she does at night first just in case she is bouncing. A few spot checks at night would be good to see.
