Another option might be a kitty playpen:

I got a similar one for Saoirse recently and it is brilliant. After seeing it, our vet is going to recommend similar to the guardians of other convalescent patients.

I think this one would be a better option your cat. It has a top that you can close to keep the cat from trying to jump out.

that is awesome. can you link me to the one you got?
It really is the biz! It's waterproof on the bottom but I line it with puppy pads as an additional precaution. (Saoirse has barfed a couple of times recently. Also the puppy pads are great for soaking up water if one accidentally knocks the water bowl.)

Here's a link to the one I bought from Amazon UK (very similar to the one in the amazon.com link I posted in my previous reply to you):

Saoirse's Playpen

As Lisa mentions above, it's great to have the see-through cover over the top of the playpen. If you look to buy one, make sure that the top can be unzipped: it makes it much easier to clean the litter box and replace food dishes when you don't have to be on all fours and trying to prevent a kitty from trying to make a bid for freedom. :)

I hope you have great success with it. Please be sure to let us know how it goes down. Saoirse actually likes to sit in her kitty hotel even though she no longer needs to be confined in it. That's the best result of all: knowing she was cool with being in it. :)

Dust Bunny had the same thing when I found her but she continued to walk. I could not get any vets to check her hinny out until just recently. And by that time it was long healed. I hope your kitty makes a full recovery. The arthritis and pain caused by one that wasn't healed 100% properly is not something you wanna see her go through.

took me forever to find this thread again to update.
So far she is on the mend been back to the vet a few times for enema and xray. goes back again sat. she seems to love the portable playhouse. take her outside on the porch in it and she really likes that sits up looking all around and doesnt try to get out. one leg still has very little movement and the other leg is doing better has more movement. the break is across both hips.
thanks again mog that really is a great find!

I just noticed the pee pad along the edge and now i LOVE you! My kitties always get the edge of the box and the wall, which is hard to clean and horrible since i am renting! I am going to do this all around my litter boxes from now on!

I was hoping to use the no knuckling sock, but they did not recommend it for cats when my vet called them. They said cats feet are softer then dogs and the band on it that holds the toes would most likely irritate or possibly cut into his toes. i bought the bootie splint, but it is just a little too big for him (smallest size) so we use x-tra small walkin dog boot, its keeping alot of wear and tear off the top of his toes. I can return the bootie splint to them, but am going to donate it to a rescue or the shelter that can put it to good use.

would those laser treatments I have seen advertised do anything to help with nerve damage for him?

not sure, but I am starting to think there is some neuropathy at play as well because of his glucose levels. He seems to be walking a little low on his other rear leg, but it could just be compensating for the other, or totally in my head! I was going to talk to his vet tomorow about it. Once again so glad I found this site, I would have never even realized the connection. I trust his vet, but like so many others she knows a little about a lot, and sometimes I have to do a little digging for the in depth. I noticed signs of high blood pressure in my hyperthyroid kitty (my 15 yr old girl Dee) after reading an article, and pushed the issue with her. Sure enough she has it, and is now being regulated.
