Its been a long long time since Ive posted. Scan is now 14. He has been diabetic sinceabout 2004. He was honeymooning but the doc had to give steroids so we started shots again. Now he is honeymooning again but is in serious condition. His chest has been filling with liquid. He has had as much as 200cc's at one side drained. Thats been going on for months. Now we have that under control but he is having breating difficulties not related to water in his chest. He is breathing 88 breaths per minute. We have tested for absolutley for everything. Ive never seen a cat breathe that fast. Does anyone have any kind of experience with their cat like this? His bg is normal so no shots at all. Ive searched high and low for help. He is in the hospital now this is his second day in. Any advise would be appreciated.

Steroids given to cats with heart issues can result in rapid breathing and the fluid accumulation you describe, although this can be the result of something else as well. If you can discontinue the steroids (with medical assistance to taper gradually), that might be a good thing to try. I'm sorry - hope your kitty feels better soon. Laura

Draining large quantities of fluid frequently may be altering his normal electrolytes and chemistries. Check with the vet to see if he needs any supplements for that.
