New to this site but not to diabetic cats. Have 2, Sunshine is in remission but not Montana yet.

Montana is a big neutered guy. About 20 pounds down from a hefty 22+
He is on 2.5 units of Lantus; 2 times per day.
Food is Fancy Feast Classic and Elegant Medleys (which will be changed after reading nutritional info here. thnx)
Free choice dry Royal Canin Special 33 and a few dry Friskies for treats.

Problem:
He is not eating. He is hungry but throws up canned food (esp. when water added - which we usually do)
Not throwing up dry food but will only eat the Friskies and only very few pieces at a time.
He is lethargic - only wants to be in front of heater and has snuggled all night in bed with me for 2 nights (usually only stays for
a little while)
Third eye lid NOT showing but eyes don't look right.

Urine glucose was negative this morning. Last insulin was 2 units at noon yest.

Have not seen these symptoms listed as being hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic. He is an indoor cat. But we do have another guy who goes in and out.

Would appreciate any ideas or recommendations ?????

THANKS A BUNCH!

My vet (whom I dearly love) is on vacation. UGH!

Hello and welcome to the board

I will ask an expert to come over and have a look. I am concerned about his lethargy and not eating.

Do you test the urine for ketones? ( I see you test for sugar but some sticks KetoDiastix as opposed to Diastix do ketones too). Do you smell acetone or nail polish remover from his breath? If the answer is YES call the vet (any vet or emergency) right now.

When did he last eat?

Wendy

I would get your cat to the vet. Ketones can develop without a noticeable acetone smell. Not eating and lethargy are early symptoms of ketosis or infection. If your cat is snuggling with the heater, it may be an indication that he has a fever (i.e., chills). Rather be safe than sorry -- get him to a vet. There's got to be someone who's covering your vet's practice or go to an ER.

Thanks for the feedback. Don't smell the ketones (acetone)

He nibbled a little canned food - probably less than a teaspoon.

He is interested, eats a little and walks away. Won't eat crunchies this a.m.

Will take him to emergency vet in a bit. Thanks

I'm glad you're going to the vet. It sounds like he needs bloodwork, urine and maybe some xrays. Please give us an update when you can
