Well, guess what? After not-so-good (actually awful) numbers, Hannah once again has a nice number (165 on the AlphaTrak2) one hour prior to her evening insulin. Of course, we're not shooting and are delaying until her number goes up. I am trying to figure out just what number would be appropriate to shoot and at what dose, as really don't want to skip her evening shot. Every time we skip, her number skyrockets by the next 12 hours and we get nowhere in trying to get it down to something decent. Could someone please suggest at what number we might safely shoot and how much? I won't be able to be up during the night to monitor, so I am thinking her usual evening dose of 0.40, although last night we upped it a bit to 0.6 units, hoping for better numbers, today. That did seem to help a bit, but it followed an awful number last evening of 531. Help, please... and thanks.

Thanks for your reply, Sue! It seems we can always depend on you for a reply, and I want you to know that Hannah and I really appreciate your help!! By 10:00 PM, hadn't heard from anyone, so went ahead and shot about 0.20 U. It's hard to get it exact on the Terumo U-100 syringes, so eyeballed it. I did pretty much as you suggested -- filled it to the 0.40 mark, then let a little out. Thank you for confirming that I did the right thing. I feel better, now -- much better! You are the best!!!

It may be helpful to learn drop dosing.

Drop method of dosing:
Practice by filling the syringe to the first non-zero mark using an easily visible liquid, such as coffee. Carefully squeeze out equal sized drops - you may find twisting the plunger helps - and repeat until you can get the same number of equal sized drops each time. Now, when you dose the insulin, you can discharge drops (into the sink) from the dose, based on your cat's response.
