Need Help - Low Numbers

Hi All,

Boots tested at 141 this morning. I fed her and shot two units before work. I came home to her at 56, fed her right away, and tested her again a bit more than an hour later and she's only risen to 57. Why would it take so long for her to come up? She had two cans of Fancy Feast plus my other cat's leftovers. Thoughts on next steps? Thanks so much.

Test her again in 1/2 hour to see she is not dropping low again. She probably dropped lower during the cycle when you were at work.
You are having to skip every second night. I think we need to lower the dose so you can shoot both cycles.
Good job skipping tonight.
Can you post the next test please Liz

She's at 66 now. When should I test again? She's about over me right now! Also, should I lower her AM dose assuming her AMPS is high enough?

I would get one more test in in an hour to see that she is still fine.
She is certainly needing less insulin as you have changed her over to low carb food.
Because of the skipped shots, and the fact she most likely dropped below the 56 during this last cycle, I would reduce her to 1.5 units and see how she goes with that. Others may not agree but as you can’t test during the day with work I think 1.5 units to be safe.
Are you leaving food out for her to eat during the day? And is she eating it?
What are your thoughts @Chris & China (GA)

Awful cat mom...I fell asleep. Lesson learned to set an alarm when this happens at the end of a long work week
She is at 246 now (7 hours post dinner, no insulin). I am home today, so can test throughout the day. Unless anyone has a different idea since I'll be home to test, I'll shoot 1.5 with breakfast and see how she does. Her drinking/peeing have reduced to normal (small litter clumps, infrequently having to fill water bowls).
I haven't left food out because she will just inhale any and all food as soon as it's put down at this point, but I should have a Petsafe feeder on my doorstep tomorrow (today...it's almost 3AM here)! Now that shes off dry, what should I put in it?

Falling asleep happens to us all...don't worry about it.
I learnt to live by the alarm when I had Sheba.
I would say Boots is bouncing from the 56 and possibly lower during the am cycle. So don't stress if she is still high in the morning.
Stick with the new dose.
Put her new low carb wet into the feeder. Just clean out the bowls each day.
Work out what snacks you want her to have and when. Give most of the food in the first half of the cycles when the insulin is usually strongest and don't feed in the last 2 hours preshot.

She's at 356 AMPS. There's definitely a pattern! I'm shooting 1.5 and will test during the day. Thanks for all your help!

Regarding the feeder, you can also make "catsickles." Mix your usual low carb food with water so it's soupy and freeze in the food in an ice cube tray. You can leave a cube in each of the feeder bins.
