Hi, all, I'm looking for advice on dry food. I am trying to transition my four dry food junkies onto a wet only diet - not going so well. Squallie eats ProPlan DM because of his diabetes, and they all eat (read:are given) FF or Friskies pate', which they have all decided they hate (one kitty will eat it but ONLY if he can steal it out of someone else's dish, which suits the others just fine). The other cats also get dry food as well. I am looking for an affordable dry food that I can feed the whole crew and that will be safe for Squallie, as well. Honestly, I just can't afford to feed them all ProPlan DM. I've been reading a little about Young Again No Carb and Innova Evo, wondered if anyone has experience of either of these? Or any other suggestions? As for the canned, I'll keep putting out the dishes, but it would probably be easier just to empty the cans straight into the trash, no dish washing involved, then, lol!

I have 7 cats. Only 2 or 3 will eat Young Again, my diabetic used to love it. I use EVO to supplement Heff's diet. He refuses to eat his wet unless there's sprinkles of the kibble. It's a decent quality food & affordable all things considered. I buy it online from chewy.com. If you have a local pet store that sells it you can get a 2 lb bag for around $10 to try. You could also try emailing the company (Natura for Evo) and asking for samples. They are pretty generous with samples & coupons. Young Again will send you samples too.

Sprinkling Forti Flora in canned food is a great way to get kibble junkies off the dry food.

Read the link below. See especially page 6.

I assume you're wanting to finish up the Pro Plan DM. There is no reason to keep feeding an expensive prescription diet. See the nutritional guide in my signature line for inexpensive low carb options. Unless any of your cats have any other health issues, you can feed them what you feed Squallie. Again, aim for under 10% low carbs.

My cat always ate dry and I initially switched her to evo while trying to transition her to wet. She loved it. I started trying different canned foods and found she would eat merricks surf n turf( pricey). Later, I discovered she' ll eat ff turkey and giblets and now I have her solely on that. I never thought I would get her to eat canned. Maybe u need to try different flavors. I also found that sprinkling a little Parmesan cheese will help if she's being finicky.

There is also Wysong Epigen 90 which is a lot like Young Again, you can get it from Chewy also. They also make a freeze dried food that my cats will go mad for when I pull the bag out. I remembered I had some left, they will not eat it with water in like it is suppsed to be served but tried sprinkling it on food they would not eat and they chowed down. I like using it more than the fortiflora, as the fortiflora can get expensive trying to get 7 cats to eat. And ZiwiPeak has a air dried food that varies in carb from 6% - 10.6 depending on flavor. I really don't know much about it as I was on their site looking at the canned food, thinking about trying it. Not sure if anyone on the forum has ever tried the ZiwiPeak stuff. But it doesn't sound bad at all.
