OK, we increased to 3 units. Over the last three days Rudy has been eating a little less. He was eating 4 1/2 ounces of fancy feast twice a day. Wednesday he at 4 ounces, then 1 ounce. Thursday he ate 3 1/2 then 4. Friday he ate 3 then 2 1/4. Today he ate 2 ounces during the day.

1. Please look at his chart in my signature. his numbers are weird- could it be because he hasn't eaten much? or because we were an hour late with his shot this morning? Do we give his PM shot? Do we give a lower PM shot?

2. I am leaving out of town tomorrow until Tuesday. The pet sitter will feed him and give him his shot but not test. Do I just have her give a lower dose while I am gone? I am so confused by today's test and I don't want him to dip too low while we are gone- he's never done this before!

freaking out :-( I don't want to leave him this way

I just realize that we screwed this all up- we fed him after the +12 test. He ate about an ounce in the last hour. thinking I just skip this shot entirely tonight? I feel like I screwed this up so bad right before I leave him by himself. It is now 2 hours past what his normal shot time would be- next shot would be in 10 hours......

I am guessing the lower numbers can partly be that he isn"t eating as much and the dose may be a little high. You increased pretty fast. We generally say to increase by .25 (or .5 if the numbers are really high) and hold the dose three cycles before increasing again. I think I would go back to 2.5 and get some data.

I think I'd either skip tonight Because he is still dropping....

thank you so much!!!! Stupid vet telling me to increase so fast :-( we slowed it down a little- it took us 5 days to get to 3 units (we weren't testing daily so the spreadsheet is confusing if you aren't looking at the dates). Is a cycle a day or a shot?

I am also trying to figure out what to tell the pet sitter starting tomorrow for two days. Wondering if I just have her give him a lower dose like 2 units while I am gone? I am only going to miss 4 shots- but she will be shooting blind. I almost want to tell her that if he hasn't really eaten, not to shoot at all?

I would think 2 units should be okay for the sitter, but that's a guess. Print off BJ's secondary monitoring tools for her too? I don't know what to say about not eating. No food, high BGs can lead to DKA. Does he have a food he really likes , something even a little higher carb but still wet?

If he is fasting/won't eat, using about half the regular dose is an option; some vets have you do that when the cat fasts pre-procedure.

thank you!!! He is still only eating 4 oz a day right now- so it should be enough to keep him ok on 1/2 the dose. I will evaluate what is going on with him when I get back in two short days. Thank you for all of your help. Just figures that he does something weird right before I leave :-(
