Need Advice

My cat has been on Lantus for about four months. He’s doing well, with preshot number around 100-120, nadir around 80. He’s on .5 unit.

We have been giving him the shot either when he’s sleeping or my wife holds him in her arms and I do it quickly.

Well the problem is, the last four days he has started to go batsh*t crazy when it’s shot time. We’ve now missed two shots bc he basically acts like a ferrel cat any time we approach him with the shot. Hissing, biting. I’ve tried different things to calm him, feeding him, petting, etc. I’ve owned cats for 35 yrs so I like to think I’m good at keeping them calm. But I’m out of ideas. If we can’t give him insulin...we’ll that’s that.
 
I typically give the shot as my cat is eating and he doesn't even notice. It seems to bother him if I try afterwards when he's not occupied. Also, which needle are you using. I was using the 1.0ml because that is what the pharmacy gave me, but when my vet wanted me to switch to 1/2 units she saw the needles and told me I needed the .5ml which are smaller yet rated for the insulin, and that has also made a difference.
 
That's a little odd...perhaps you gave a bad shot and now he's got a bad association? Or maybe hes just sore on that area. If you shoot scruff, you can also try flank.

I'd do the usual things to get positive association back - treats, affection, etc. Also thinner needles may help. I'd do the ol' burrito wrap in the meantime to get the shots in

That is bananas! From sleeping to freaking out. Wow. I hope you find the solution, your kitties numbers seem so great
