HI! Welcome to the board. Maybe instead of pulling it straight up you can roll it a bit? You can also try a different location that maybe has more give.

Welcome to the best support group you could ever hope to find.
When Mac was diagnosed a couple of months ago he had lost a bit of weight and I found it quite easy to use the scruff of his neck. When he put some back on the scruff wasn't so loose and he didn't like it. I tried his hip area once but boy did he hate that! ECID! So since then I have used the area over his front shoulder blades - alternating sides each time - it seems to be easier to get a decent amount of scruff there on Mac. Ps don't be afraid to pull the skin up a few inches fairly firmly (within reason of course !)
That's where works for us but I'll leave it to the real experts now who will have other ideas for you.

Hi Jeanene, I couldn't use the 'tenting' technique with my first diabetic (that was because he was a fidget). So, the technique I used was to grab some skin on the scruff between fingers and thumb of my non-dominant hand, then pull that up and tip it up slightly. Then I'd give the shot almost directly downwards into the skin that I was holding, about mid-way between fingers and thumb. Doing this meant that I could still give the shot even if he moved a bit, as long as I was holding onto that skin. And it also meant that there was no danger of my accidentally pricking his flesh if he suddenly moved, because the depth of skin in my hand was greater than the length of the syringe needle. If that makes sense...?
I am aware though that this may still require some degree of skin elasticity...

@Chris & China (GA) has a technique where she rolls some skin on the scruff back, and (I think) gives the shot where the fur naturally parts. I'm pretty sure she has a photo of this... (Is that right, Chris?)

Jeanene, I don't know what insulin you're using but I also wonder if there is a possibility of your using shorter syringes...? That may make giving the shots easier for you...

Yes, the "wrist roll". You grab some fur between your thumb and forefinger and then "roll" your wrist to gently pull the skin and then shoot in the "break" in the fur at about a 45 degree angle.
