Need Advice with Wide Spread Numbers (Fitzel)

Thank you Sue for suggesting I continue to test Fitzel.

Her numbers are: Last Night @ 9:28pm (pre-evening shot) 249mg/dl

This morning: 9:39am (pre-shot) 226mg/dl

This afternoon - 6 hours post shot: 45mg/dl

I gave her a high carb treat to help with the low bs and she seems fine.

This seems like such a wide spread, and again, she's very low in the afternoon - this is about the time I would take her into the vet, so her low numbers are a constant. Except yesterday at the vet (4:30pm) she was 73.

Does anyone have any advice or ideas about her numbers? I'm very concerned.

Her numbers suggest her dose is too high. She is most likely bouncing from the low numbers to higher ones. Her low numbers aren't super low, but getting close. ( we suggest intervening with anything lower than 40). The other precaution for new diabetics is not to shoot under 200. We suggest your retest in 20 minutes, without feeding, to see if the number goes into safer territory and be sure the number is rising. Her preshots are close to 200 so in a very good lower range - a range to be careful with.

Because she went down to the 40s, a dose reduction is in order. What was her dose earlier?

Here is a document about ProZinc that may help:

Hi Sue - thank you for replying. Fitzel's dose is .75 morning and night. I'm giving her Lantus.
I tested her again and her numbers have been climbing. The last being 135 an hour ago. Shot time is usually around 9:30 both am and pm. I'll test her in about a half an hour. If she's back up to 220-250 should I cut her to .50?

I am sorry. I thought you were giving her ProZinc. You might go over to the Lantus support group and ask for dose advice.

They will want to see her dosing history so you can write it like this:

Date. Amps. Units given
+#. Any numbers you have midcycle
Date Pmps units given

They will want you to set up a spreadsheet ASAP. If you want help, send me a private message (pm button on the bottom left hand of this post.
