Hi! I am the foster mama of Dulcinea, who is 5 years old and was diagnosed on 19.10.2015. Since then she is on Caninsulin (Vetsulin). With your great help, I switched her on Mac's wet food since 25.01.2016 and yesterday was the first day only with wet food. I used to feed her Royal Canin Diabetic dry food.
I made the BG curve a couple of days ago, but I would need some help to fill in the data in the spreadsheet.
And also with the amount of food I should give her. She is quite fat and hungry all the time. Should I feed her every time she wants?
Since I gave her wet food, she drinks less water and seems more active :) The glucose level is already lower. She had 233 at one point during the day, which is the lowest level she ever had till now.

Hello! First, thanks for being a foster mom! The fact that you've changed her to all canned/low carb (hopefully 10 or less) food is a really good start and you could see her numbers dropping even more in the coming days. Has your vet said what weight D should be?

You'd need to do a little calculating to come up with the amount. Something like how many calories are in a serving and how many calories you need to help kitty lose weight. I'm not very good with that stuff, but I'm sure someone who is will chime in soon. You definitely don't want to feed whenever she's hungry, if she's overweight, it'll be better for her to get some weight off, and that won't happen if she's eating all of the time. But again it comes down to the calorie thing....

As to spreadsheet, I'll have to leave that to someone else, I have trouble with it myself sometimes.

Hello,

The spreadsheet goes as follows:

AMPS = morning preshot test. 7am, 8 Am etc.

U = how many units you gave

+1, +2 ....= the hour after your shot. So if you give insulin at 7am the +1 would be 8 am and so on.

PMPS = evening preshot test usually 12 hrs after morning shot.

Hope that helps you.

Set meal times might be better. Smaller meals more frequently so she doesn't feel as hungry.
