Hi everyone. My cat SAC was diagnosed with FD recently. I am using prozinc, but have to do glucose testing. I'm overwhelming looking at meters and need advice as the best setup to purchase, as he is still losing a lot of weight. I'm asking for the least amount of blood needed, and the type to use so I can get the curve figured out.

If you live in the US, you can get the Relion Confirm or Micro meter from WalMart.....they are the most popular meters around here because they take the tiniest sample size and the strips are affordable. The meters are about $15 and the strips are about $36/100

Relion confirm or micro if you need it to be inexpensive. Alphatrak 2 if you want a pet specific meter and cost is not an issue. (Strips are about a dollar each verses relion confirm at about .36). Booth take the smallest sample size.

I have switched to the Prettest. It is much cheaper than the Alphatrack, it's has more reliable test results and takes just a tiny bit of blood. I bought mine at Amazon. The strips are under $40 for 50.

Sorry, my phone keeps messing up . It is Pettest from Advocate. I bought it so I could have spare meter, in case my Alphatrack broke down. I like the Pettest better. It is more dependable and the strips cost less.

I use a human Meter. Contour Next that I received free from my pharmacist. I told them about my cat and they are great about saving expired test strips and lancets for me. It uses .06mls of blood. .03mls is the smallest meter I believe? A package of 100 strips is in the $50 range.
Most pharmacies here offer a free meter if you buy 50 test strips. Call around... You never know! We are in Canada, Ontario so Prescription is not required. Once you get into the habit testing becomes routine. My cat does not mind at all and wakes me every morning to get her test and insulin. Lol.
