Need a vet in the Portland, OR area...UPDATE

Sadly, my wonderful Dr. Smith (who treated B.K., Chester, and Marie's Belle), decided to leave the vet clinic recently. The new vet just isn't going to make it as far as treating my furkids (she tried to sell Marie and I a feline glucometer, didn't think feeding diabetic cats non-prescription low-carb food worked, was telling us how great Lantus was - by using the information I had provided to the clinic just two weeks ago, etc.). Anyone know of a good vet in the Portland area that knows about and treats FD?

Many thanks in advance...

Shoot. Can't Dr. Smith point you towards someone? If not, my suggestion is to call the nearby ER clinics and vet school to ask their recommendations as to who they know in Portland that treats the most diabetic cats.

Unfortunately, Dr. Smith wasn't able to let her patients know she was leaving...I found out when I called to make B.K.'s annual appointment. Calling the ER vets and the vet school is an excellent idea...I'll do that tomorrow.

The lost has been found! :RAHCAT Unfortunately, I'm now very disappointed in the clinic that formerly employed Dr. Smith and had been treating B.K. for nearly ten years and Chester since he got here. Turns out, Dr. Smith moved on to another clinic. I certainly don't expect a vet clinic to "promote" the services of a competitor, but I'm pretty PO'd that they told me this story about how she resigned to take some time off, then wanted to go into emergency vet medicine, yada yada yada. Why not just tell me she resigned and leave it at that?

I am so glad you found the lost.

I can understand the competition thing. But it is sad that happens.

Hi Jana! ( & Bk & Chester)

My baby Dopey just got dignosed with diabetes almost 2 weeks ago. The vet I see also has a diabetic kitty herself. She recommended the vet food, but told me she likes how I'm researching it on my own, and how I want to be hands on with his issue. The vet I go to is VCA Hospital, the Raleigh Hills Branch, Dr. Yuko. I don't know where you are in Portland, if this is too far for you, but I used to take Dopey to the VCA in SE Portland when I lived out there, and they were a good hospital as well (but that was pre-diabetes). I'm not sure if this helps, but I hope you get a good vet for your kitties soon!

I've taken my cat here a couple of times (I only live in PDX Monday - Thursday so they're not my primary vet) and have been VERY happy with the treatment provided. They're on the corner of 26th and NW Thurman.
