I think we'll put Napa on a trial, too. Maybe Goldie will bring us luck.
We probably *could* go lower with the one drop method but a skinny 0.1 yesterday was stressful when she dropped to 52 midday hours before her "usual" nadir time. Deb, thanks for the OTJ guidelines. I'll pull those patient pants back out and try to give her a good 5 days or so to let the depot work its way out and let Napa adjust to that. Jill, thank you again for the advice with "food trials."
A few updates (in case the our story helps others out there):
WCR:
- weight is up 7oz since last check ~4 weeks ago.
- she still has a huge appetite, but settles down more between meals.
- the 5 Ps have been really good, but with a couple of issues....
Pancreatitis?
- there has been some instances of puke the last several days (clear, frothy, silver dollar sized). Suspect Napa due to locations, but not 100% sure.
- she sometimes seems uncomfortable after eating. Meatloafing, swishing tail, not happy to be picked up.
- could pancreatitis be behind all this--have suspected something like this all along and moreso since I read up on it via the link BJM posted (A Primer On Pancreatitis) and elsewhere.
- recently started giving her Fancy Feast along with Soulsitic LC varieties because PetCo is often out of or low on Soulsitic.
- going back to Cat Info I see the calorie % from fat is quite high for FF compared to Soulsitic. Fat intake might exacerbate pancreatitis. I'll take the FF back out of her diet and see if things improve.
- picked up copies of her labs while at the vet for weight check:
---initial labs on 12/20 had high values for: ALT (187), BUN (38), Glucose (377) as well as Triglycrides, WBC, Neurtophils, Eosinophils. Low values for Chloride and Na/K.
---pancreatic labs on 1/18/14: Cobalamin (B12?) was in normal range, Folate was high, TLI was in normal range, PLI was high at 8.4, fructosamine was high at 571 indicating "fair" regulation.
- the vet read me the results of the pancreatic lab over the phone and mostly indicated it was not very specific for differential diagnosis. I'll ask about that high PLI next time we are in. The test was fairly expensive but we could re-do when the time is right.
- If the post meal discomfort and and puke don't resolve, I'll inquire about pancreatic enzyme supplementation.
For the really interested reader (LOL), here's the link to our first condo with whiny intro post and second condo with dose reduction debates, a bad bounce, and otj considerations.
As always, I wish I could fully express my humble gratitude to everyone here.
