When should the Nadir of a cat on Canninsulin be?

Can it vary between cats?

Meows Nadir seems to be @ 5 hours, not 6 hours.

I accidently took it at 5 hours instead of the 6 hours I try for, and it was 7.3, then I tested at 6 hours and it was 12.7.

Should I be checking at 5 hours to find his lowest dip then?

Also, on my SF link, there is a 33 that I did not put in the SF. I have no idea how it got there. IT isnt mine. Meow has never got down that low and it isnt on my original SF, anyone know how it got there?????

NM, I edited it out. Weird.

TIA.

BTW, this is the best Meows BG has ever been so I dont want to mess it up somehow.

I don't know about your insulin specifically, but cats are quite contrary in general  and nadirs can vary. It is one of the reasons that when we start hometesting, its recommended to try to catch some spot tests at different times to try to locate where your cat tends to be the lowest. Some cats might hit +5, some might go longer into +7 or +8.

Thank you.

I think it may be, after reading, the status quo for this insulin. It seems to hit hard and then fade quickly. Ugh.

Caninsulin is not that great of an insulin, and is shorter acting when compared to Lantus or Levemir.
I started using caninsulin for Shadoe but really got nowhere decent.

You are in Canada so there is no reason why you can't use Lantus or even Levemir, as you don't have to rely on the vet to get more insulin and you will see longer lasting results. In Canada, you can just pop into Shopper's DrugMart and buy a package of 5 cartridges from the pharmacy.

If you do change insulins, be sure you get the U100 syringes.... for Caninsulin, you are using the U40 syringes.
Also, there is a protocol that can help you with the dosing; you cannot jump all over the doses as you are doing with caninsulin right now..... keeping a low steady dose until you see if you need to increase is a safe approach.

You already switched to the better foods and you are seeing how much better numbers you are getting!
I am currently using Relion meter and it's quite good but my preferred meters are the Bayer meters; they need less blood and sip quite quickly.

You may want to remove the dose of 5u in your signature as it looks like that dose was from before you changed foods.

Oh, yes I should. Thank you.

I am going to make an appt at the vet this week to switch insulins. HE has been very resistent to switch bc of Meows good numbers lately. But I can now show him it doesnt last long enough.

Thank you so much for the info.

Going in Friday at 2:00 to discuss MEows boomeraning on Caninsulin.

Now that you ladies showed me how to do the SF, I can show him how Meow is going down quickly, but comming back up just as fast.

I am not quite sure why you think you need your vet's permission to switch insulins.
I know in other countries, they need a script from the vet to be able to get a certain insulin, but we are in Canada so we don't need it.

Show your sheet to your vet and point out that caninsulin is quite harsh and not long lasting enough, whereas, Lantus and Levemir will last the full 12 hours.

I forgot to mention about feedings. If you were to feed the same total amount of food per day but divide it up into smaller meals, you will see more level numbers. If you are not home during the day to feed more often, you can use an auto-feeder which saves you alot of time.
