Mom and dads cat Oscar has signs of diabetes. She tested him this morning with a verio reflect one touch monitor. Anyway he was 21.5 so I assume he’s diabetic?
Very likely. I would get them to take him to the vet and ask for a fructosaminee test. Also get them to test the urine for ketones.Mom and dads cat Oscar has signs of diabetes. She tested him this morning with a verio reflect one touch monitor. Anyway he was 21.5 so I assume he’s diabetic?
They’re taking him September 9. That’s the earliestVery likely. I would get them to take him to the vet and ask for a fructosaminee test. Also get them to test the urine for ketones.
Get them to also swap him to a low carb diet now if they can.

I will mention it to them. Just started having symptoms this week. He’s drinking lots of water and peeing lotsThat’s almost 2 weeks.
Can you get them to start a low carb diet now? And make sure he is eating well.
Also encourage extra drinking or put a teaspoon of warm water in the food if he will let you.
I would also encourage them to get a bottle of Ketostix or Dia Ketostix from a pharmacy or Walmart and test the urine for ketones at least a few times a week while they are waiting, as undiagnosed FD kitties can have ketones in the urine which can lead to the much more serious DKA. If there is any sign of ketones they will need to take him into the vet straight away to start insulin.
Yikes that's a long time to wait. If they call each morning and ask if there's been any cancelations they may get in earlier. Make sure they know to switch him over to low carb wet food. No gravy and no dry! They’re taking him September 9. That’s the earliest
