Prayers that it doesn't end like Earl. He also has blood and mucus in the rectum. We've had diarrhea issues in the house recently, but it is also with the isolated FIV cats, so I don't think it is worm or virus related. More likely food. I've got them all on fortiflora. Of course the vet will be closed, and hospitalization did nothing for Earl. Tanner is still eating and drinking. The vet called in a prescription for Metronidazole. Praying this ends better. Tanner will be 19 in March.

Penny has similar problems off and on...this last bout after 10 days on Clavamox after her dental and even Forti Flora wouldn't clear it up! When I first adopted her and she had bloody stools, we had her checked for parasites, etc and nothing. Everything was fine. B/c the blood is on the outside of the stool, vet seems to think she may have hemorrhoids. She did a lot of straining and was bullied at the cat rescue so it's possible. This last bout finally cleared up and even her civvie sister had runny stools off and on for a week and they are strictly indoor cats who haven't been exposed to any other cats. The only thing I can come up with is that I had introduced Fancy Feast pates into their all natural diet and FF is obviously not the best for sensitive systems and the chemicals in the artificial flavoring and "added color" could be doing it. I don't have much choice as their low carb options that they will eat are limited...

If hemorrhoids are contributory, adding unflavored psyllium powder to the diet helps soften the stool so feces don't 'scratch' them on the way through. It also helps soak of excess moisture to reduce diarrhea.

It is used as 1/ to 1/4 teaspoon twice a day. Add a tablespoon of water to keep it from caking up the food.

He's still hanging in there. He is a beast to pill, so I finally just put it in a little food and he ate it. Still eating, so that's a good sign. Still the diarrhea though. Had to give him a bath, and you know how well that went over. But I didn't want his skin to scald like Earl's was. Thanks for your continued prayers.
