I had a different user name some time ago but have since forgotten it, but my kitty Lil' Dude was diagnosed with diabetes over a year ago. It was a rough time for all of us, especially finding a food we could afford and of course, learning what's best to give him and what not to give him.
I have been unable to check his blood glucose lately, but I am happy to say that his neuropathy is completely gone now!! He developed pretty bad problems with his feet (all four were affected) that he could not walk very far before having to lie down (it was comparable to how a seal moves about, sadly). Now he can run and walk without ANY issues whatsoever. We have a baby gate blocking off the kitchen and he can even jump over that (though it did wow me, it worried me since I was afraid he would attempt to jump up onto the dryer to get the dry food we leave out for my other cat, but fortunately he will peer dreamily at the dryer but doesn't attempt THAT jump).
His water intake is not near what it used to be, he doesn't get matted fur any more from lack of grooming, and he is just doing SO much better overall. We are very proud of his success. Unfortunately he is a very picky eater sometimes, but we are also very stubborn in that he won't get what he wants.
He gets a gourmet classic food we buy from the pet store. It's very nicely priced and very affordable. He seems to get irked at me because he prefers the grilled or sliced or whatever types, but after reading about the wheat gluten issues, we stopped buying that type.
We will be taking him to the vet for a check up soon & we will find out how is BG is doing, and I hope to have some good news.
I want to say thank you to this place because without this place I do not think my kitty would have been able to get well (my vet even thanked me for the info that I learned from this place because it has helped him help other clients with diabetic animals!!). You are a life-saver (literally) and I honestly couldn't be more appreciative of the info and help I've received here.
