Hello, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what could be wrong with my cat. He was diagnosed with diabetes about a year and a half ago, he is seven years old, and recently (a couple of days ago) I noticed as I returned from vacation that he is really bloated. His stomach feels really hard and is bloated way too much. He has been throwing up as well a couple of days ago (not anymore), eating dry food mostly (he is not too keen on wet food, he hasn't been since we started giving him insulin). I give him insulin, Lantus, three units two times per day (morning and evening). Can someone tell me what could be wrong and why he is so bloated and feels so heavy? He does not seem to be his normal self either. I will take him to the vet tomorrow, however I could use any advice now. Thank you so much!!! CoCo

have you seen him go to the bathroom? pee and poop? there could be constipation and/or blockage happening

does he have any other health issues? is he having any difficulty breathing? struggling to move? exercise intolerance? thinking fluid buildup here

those are the first things to come to my mind.

either way, i would definitely have him checked by a vet tomorrow. depending on your answers to the above questions though, you may even need to see one tonight k

I hate to raise this possibility, but has he been eliminating properly...pooping once per day ?

Could be a bowel obstruction. Vet visit in order ASAP.

I have three cats and so it's hard to notice, but now that you brought it up, I will try to monitor...
no other health issues, just diabetes, and numbers still show very high considering the insulin we are administering. I didn't notice any difficulty breathing....I didnt notice him struggling to move ...I will visit the vet, even tonight. Thanks so much for your reply!!!

You might gently palpate his belly, to see if it feels lumpy or soft, and if there are particular places which are harder than others. If he won't let you do it or cries out, this suggests pain and that suggests a vet visit asap.
