Hi folks. Well I promised you an update today but I wish it was a better one. Rocky is back in hospital as of this afternoon. He hadn't eaten a thing since Thursday night when he first came home and nothing I tried would get him to even try to eat. The Mirtazapine seemed to make him really confused and out of it. He just wandered around the house not walking normally. He would take a drink of water and completely ignore the food.

So Anyway Doug and I decided that the best thing we could do was bring him back in so that he could be assisted fed over the weekend and could receive an IV again if he needs it. He's also going to try a different appetite stimulant . Come Monday if he still won't take anything on his own we may go to a feeding tube. Feeding tubes don't really scare me. Tori had one when she had such bad Gastritis that she almost died. It saved her life and I had 3 more years with her. A feeding tube would make it a for sure thing that I'd be able to give Rocky the nutrition he needs with a minimum of trauma to either of us. What do you folks think? There is so much knowledge here in Lantus Land and I so value your opinions. I want to do what is best for my boy. He deserves the best I can do for him.

So kitties of the KTSS we need your help again. Rocky needs more of your wonderful chicken soup and some company. And Beans we need your prayers.

I've got to run and get ready for work. I'll check in again tomorrow. I am so grateful for my LL family.

Hi Barb! What about nausea medication...cerenia or Zofran? In my kidney group they say treat nausea first and then add an appetite stimulant. No reason to stimulate an appetite that isn't there. Continuing to pray for sweet Rocky :YMHUG:

Hi Barb,

I hope that Rocky will respond to treatment at the hospital. I know that Dr. Doug will do the best he can for your boy. Has he ruled out pancreatitis? If Rocky needs a feeding tube to get the nutrition he needs, then that is what you should do. I assume you already know the Yahoo Assisted Feeding group. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Feline-Assisted-Feeding/info Karrie (Maverick) strongly recommends this group and the help they can give.

Lots of vines for Rocky today, and Rusty is busy cooking up another batch of chicken soup. The KTSS will be along shortly.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Way back in the Jojo days, she would often push for feeding tubes for just the reason you noted.

You might want to discuss with Dr. Doug the merits of Cerenia over Zofran (ondansatron). Zofran is typically more expensive as a pill but it's much less expensive as an injection. Some cats do have a less than desirable response to mirtazepine and do better with cyproheptadine.
