Our cat, Darla, was diagnosed last week with diabetes. She is 12 years old. Very sweet, but pretty much scared of everything. She has always been like this. So we started the insulin shots on Monday. It went well the first few days. She would eat her breakfast and I would gently scoop her up and hold her while my hubby gave her the shot, and he did a good job. She didn’t fuss, would just slink off by herself for awhile. Then she got wise to me scooping her up, so she would make a bee line under a bed afterwards and we would wait for her to come out and sneak over to again gently pick her up. Well, this morning she only ate a tiny bit and went right under the bed. By the time she came out we didn’t feel she had enough food in her to safely do the shot. At dinner we closed the doors to the bedrooms, but that didn’t work because then she thought she was going to the vet, so she didn’t eat. She hid in the closet and she is now in the bathroom. I brought her food in there, but she is terrified. We are trying to do the best we can, but now she will again miss tonight’s dose because she won’t eat, and that isn’t good either. She is getting so nervous that whenever either one of us moves for anything she is ready to run under the bed. Our other cat, her sibling, is now getting pretty nervous herself just watching this three ring circus. Any suggestions? Another sleepless night trying to come up with a solution. She does not have a sensor yet, and in reading up on it we find it is not compatible with either of our phones, so I have to buy a new phone first. I try to think positive, but after this fiasco I know this sensor will be traumatic for her to have on. Thank you for any suggestions.
