My boy did a small stumble and his eyes are a bit glassy? Isnt this a sign of too much insulin? What can I do. He got his injection at 630p. He is on 3 units of Vetsulin. I don't hometest but tomorrow Im giving him two units. and Ive been told this is a high amount. My cat is only 8 lbs!!! April 5 blood sugar was 336 at 5 pm and a almost a week later blood sugar was 396 at 230pm. so she put him up to 3 units.
After talking to everyone and seeing all the comments I think 3 units is too much for him. I work long days and just make it home in time to feed and give his injection.
Please any suggestions??

I have some dry food. its like 9 lives or something. the stuff he doesn't eat anymore. should I give him some? his vet said only let eat at shot time. I just want him to be ok now.

His eyes usually are glassy since ive started the insulin. I think vet is telling me to give him too much now that ive read the symptoms of the glassy eyes and tonight was the first stumble Ive seen.

Hi Melissa! I'm 'Ld Squeaky' in the FD facebook group. You have no way to tell if he's too low or not. Chicken and green beans aren't high in carbs at all, with that dose - he needs carbs. Break out something he likes with higher carbs in it.

Vet said eat only at shot time.

Food is the main way to pull him out of an emergency low. He didn't mean 'don't let food pass his lips'.

Do you have a meter, could you test him? If not, then I think I would assume a hypo and feed accordingly. If you have a bit of honey or syrup give him a bit.

Please get a meter as soon as you can-it's really the only way to be sure your boy is safe. Keep an eye on him, the syrup will only last a short while and then he may go low again.

Thanks everyone. We were up until a bit after midnight. He seemed ok after. I did the syrup n he woke up n licked his paws for a bit. He was ready to eat this morning at 530. I gave him two units of vetsulin this morning.
He goes to his foster mom tonight after his injection. She has another diabetic cat n a few other special needs cats. She is going to try to get him switched to lantus. I wish i knew the vetsulin equivalent to lantus. He is supposed to take three units of vetsulin but after last night ill give him two. I think she is a member on the fb dcin page.

Hi Melissa! Vetsulin and Lantus are 2 different types of insulin, it's not an 'equivalent' thing. Vetsulin (animals) and 'NPH' (Humulin/Novalin-Human) are fairly 'equivalent'. Lantus and Levemir are both actually human insulins.

I look forward to hearing updates on sweet boy...
