Murphy's Cushing's Test/Ultrasound/BG Tonight

Murphy had a Cushing's test today, and she didn't get her insulin or eat until noon today. My vet told me to feed her late tonight, so I thought about 9:45 p.m. (PST). She is at 111 BG currently, and I'm afraid to give her the insulin tonight b/c she's nearly perfect right now. Then, tomorrow, she wants me to continue as usual w/ feeding and shots. But, she'll be off kilter for a few days and I don't want to shoot any less than 10 hours. Any ideas on how I should handle this. I hesitate tonight b/c she's on the low side of good right now.

Also, we did ultra sound on her little front paws, and she has torn tendons from obviously falling, which we believe caused the huge laceration on the side of her belly. What we decided is to proceed w/ B12 methyl 3mcg per day. We don't think splinting her will do any good, but the B12 will help relieve some of the discomfort, and maybe repair some of the nerve damage.

So, I'm waiting for the results, but won't know until Monday. She threw in a fructosamine and didn't even tell me and didn't charge me. I'm so thankful for her.

Please, ideas on eating/shooting tonight. Help.

Lisa

Heya, Lisa. Glad to see that you got to the bottom of Miss Murphy's leg/paw issues... I hope that she heals soon.

As for tonight's shot, do you need to shoot at a particular time in the mornings? I think I'd probably be inclined to skip tonight with that 111, and that way you can just be on track with the time of your choice. Having missed two shots, you'll most likely see some higher numbers with the drain off the shed, but hopefully Murphy should be back to better numbers quickly.

Fingers and paws crossed on the Cushings test... so nice of your vet to throw in the fructosamine. Will be nice to compare that number with your hometesting findings as a confirmation.

Have a good night!

What I did find is that the Cosequin (glucosamine/chondroitin) was raising her BG numbers and that is what we think might have been giving her some unstable numbers earlier. She's practically normal BG now. I'll let you all know about the tests when I hear.

Lisa,
We all know that the waiting is rough for results but at least now you have the testing done.
Knowing helps. Pats for Murphy.

Good news on one test - her fructosamine was 251. I believe that last one we did was 242, so she's still controlled, and I'm so, so happy about that. Her vet isn't in today, so they won't give me the results of the Cushing's and Addison's tests but I will find out tomorrow.

Keep your fingers crossed, but I think the vet really suspects that it is Cushings. From where they had to shave her little neck back in August 2010 when she went into the ER, none of the fur has grown back, and none on her hind legs either where they were doing blood tests, etc. So, that is what concerns her.

We'll see tomorrow.

I will look forward to your update on the test results.

I wonder if something for pain, like Buperenorphine, might help her with her leg injuries. My civie had very bad arthritis pain, and Bupe is helping her.
