Murphy Super High BG Tonight

Hi all. We've been away -- well, actually, I've been super sick with the flu. Murphy was doing really well with her BG until today. Came home -- threw up and her BG had just from low-mid 100s to 293 tonight b/4 dinner. My vet has recommended "Happy Hips" for her neuropathy and joint pain, but possibly that is what elevated her BG with the increase in protein in the treats. I'm up for ideas, but wow, this scared me because I don't know what happens when a kitty's BG skyrockets like that. Any ideas?

Sorry you were sick but glad you are back on board. My cat Nomad sometimes has an occasional spike for no reason. I am not familiar with these supplements you mentioned. You might want to read the label to see if they have any filler ingredients that have carbohydrates or sugar. Tell Murphy we all say "Meow.....rrrrruphs up?" LOL :-)
 
I'm stumped. Her vet has researched everything, but with the Happy Hips, it really is a terrific product for neuropathy. But, with the high protein, I suspect that it could spike her glucose. Either that, or my chubby little girl jumped somehow onto the counter and ate Oscie's food today. That's all I can think of, and honestly, I have seen a little more here's and there's with the Lantus Solostar pen. I guess I'm wondering and I'm not too crazy about the pen. Doesn't seem very consistent since I started with it.
 
These are the ingredients listed on the Petco website for Happy Hips:

Pretty high in protein 55%. I think that she may have somehow jumped onto the countertop and ate Oscie's dry food. She hasn't been this high since she came from the hospital. What happens with glucose spikes - or do I really want to know?

She's down to 190 - 2.5 hours post-dinner.

The insulin pen is nore convenient but it is harder to get more precise doses like half doses. Are you using the disposable pen or the refillable pen?
 
I can't use the syringes for the pen because it's such a small dose that we cannot be certain if Murphy is getting the 2 units twice per day. BUT, the little devil, I figured out what happened. This a.m., she jumped 4 feet from my sofa to the countertop, and there sits Oscie's dry food on the counter. I have a feeling that she jumped on the counter yesterday and ate all of his food. Actually, I know she did because he was ravenous last night. So, I will have to rearrange my furniture to prevent this.

Little devil, but she's awful smart!!
 
if Happy Hips contributed to high bg...you may want to try want i use for Buddys joint problems,
which is Adequan.it is off label for cats, but it totally cured him of arthritis.two shots every month does the trick,no worries about higher bg levels.
 
Talked with my vet and it isn't the Happy Hips, it's what I figured out this a.m. She stood on her hind paws looked back and me while standing on the arm of my big chair, then jumped about 4 feet onto the countertop and that's where I keep Oscie's dry food. So, when I came home last night, he was starving and she had ate all of his food.

My question now is, how long does this take to get her regulated again. One hour before dinner, she was at 180. These are the tricky parts that I'm not sure what to do with. We're also dealing with more nausea.
