Murphy - Severe Hock/Plantigrade/B-12 and Problematic Injury

New thread --

Murphy may have to have splints on her front legs. When she went in two weeks ago to the vet, she mentioned to me that she is even more hock than b/4 and that it should be getting better, not worse. She's been on Cosequin for her neuropathy in her front paws, which actually started b/4 all of the other diabetic symptoms showed up.

So, here we are -- we believe when she injured her side and the skin tore completely off, that she could have fallen and tore ligaments or tendons. It doesn't seem to bother her, but she will have x-rays tomorrow and possible splints (one at a time for 12 weeks). God, I can't stand the thought of this. I'll find those splints in the litter box with poo and pee just like the little p.j.'s she had on a few months ago!

Anyone have experience w/ hock? I've got No-Shot B12, 1000 mcg, which is 1 mg. It's methyl, not cyno.

lisa, my cat had neuropathy from the diabetes but i didn't see severe neuropathy/down on front paws until she had cancer. have you had an ultrasound/xray/bloodwork done to make sure you're not in a cancer situation?
don't want to scare you, but better to make sure.

Both my sugarcats had neuropathy - Rambo in his hind legs, and Conan on his front. Both responded very well to the Methyl B12 pills (3000 - 5000 mcg/day), although I found that the rear neuropathy did respond better.

Cosequin is pretty good for arthritis and joint problems, and it can't hurt, but I don't think it would do much for the neuropathy, which is nerve damage.

And, of course, it all works best when the blood sugar levels are stabilized.

She is doing okay. The demodex is not going away as quickly as I would like, but it is a stubborn little **** (pardon). Tomorrow I take her in for the 4 hour Cushing's test, and a few other blood tests, and x-rays for her little paws, and front and back legs, and come up w/ a game plan whether we stint or whatever with her front paws. Otherwise, she is whining that it's time for dindin, but I have to put her off tonight, b/c she the appointment is at 8:00 tomorrow morning, and she eats at 6:15. Nausea here we go.

Please keep all fingers x'd that my baby gets a healing.

My vet, she is so wonderful, and cares so much about Murphy. She did a fructosamine test and didn't even tell me, let alone, charge me for it. The results were 251! I'm so pleased w/ that. Last time, I believe she was at 242, but this could be the fluctuation with the Wellness recall and the fact that I've stopped the Cosequin, which raises the BG. As far as the Cushing's and Addison's tests, I won't get those until tomorrow.

Dr. Pederson from UC Davis gave her some interesting information on immune support therapy that he has been researching for several years, and so now, I just need to find the product. Otherwise, she does have significant tearing in her little front paw ligaments, we assume is from the fall she took. So, for right now, we are using the B12 methyl to see how she does. She's a little napster today :)
