So, Murphy's vet and I are now discussing a new diet for her. Both she and Oscie, my siamese, have been on Purina OM for 2 years, and Purina UR for 8 years. Reasoning, Oscie was prone to struvite crystals, so the Purina UR was changed because it was causing some weight gain several years ago, but Oscie still needed a diet that controlled the acidity (not higher than 6.4). We are looking at Merrick Before Grain because we want to stay away from anything more than 7% carbs, but I believe Before Grain would be a good diet. Does anyone know about the urine acidity? It has to be a diet that they both can benefit from.

Thanks.

I doubt that you will find anything about the how Before Grain would affect urine acidity since it is not marked as urinary formulation. You can always contact the manufacturer and ask them. I find the key for weight gain/control is portion control. The only problem is that some cats become obnoxious because they want more food but they are getting enough to maintain their weight. I have two cats that have had blockages due to struvite crystals and feed the the prescription diets.
