MURPHY FEELING BETTER AFTER HOSPITAL THIS WEEK

Murphy is home, she is doing much better. A few things have started to go our way. The buprenorphine was so expensive at the vet's office, that I could spend $250 per week just on her pain meds for the pancreatitis. I got the smart idea to call a compounding pharmacy and am getting 90 days for $45.00! And, so that's an expense I am happy about. Murphy's B12 will come from Costco online for $14.00 (30 ml). And, we started fluids last night. What a trip -- the needle came out as she jerked, and it started flying around like a garden hose with water in it, and I couldn't catch the line and fluids were spewing out of the needle! She was looking at me like I was nuts. She is totally on the EVO grain free diet now, and loves it. The compounding pharmacy is going to flavor her bupronorphine w/ chicken!

Anyways, her glucose seems to be a little more stabilized and her labs were actually very good when they called me yesterday. Her blood glucose is down to 213 from over 350 at the end of August. Her Bun and creatinine are stabilizing as well. I think that's progress. But, now it's the pancreatitis I have to learn more about.

I'm pleased and relieved that all things are coming around for both of us, and she feels so much better getting the fluids every day.

She certainly loves this EVO wet food, I know that for a fact!!! And, it's amazing how different she reactes after the fluids are given, like a totally different kitty cat!

I am very glad to see that Murphy is home doing well. It's very good news!! Thanks for sharing and I will be sending continued feel better vines for her!

Please let us know where you got it...that's incredible.

Are you SURE it's bupe...a synthetic narcotic. It is usually VERY hard to obtain through non-vet sources.

It is a controlled substance.

What is the dosage. Buprenex (brand) is dosed .1ml to .3ml every 4-6 hours.

Oh, I am very confident in this pharmacy, it is Global RX in Irvine, CA. They compounded her accurate dosage which is .3 mg per ml (.2 twice per day) and do quite a bit of veterinarian scripts. $45.00. I know that if there were any questions at all about compounding, her vet would have stepped in and said no, but it's a very reputable pharmacy and they have been in business for a long time. I believe they have offices around the world, if I'm not mistaken, and the nicest people you could ever speak to. And, for her neuropathy my vet called in her script to Costco internet pharmacy, 30 ml for $14.00. The fluids aren't that expensive, the entire set up is $10.00, and they give me extras needles, and that will last over a week.

Oh, just to clarify, this is a human and veterinarian compounding pharmacy. Even some pharmacies do not carry it or it comes in a teeny glass vile, that has to be broken to open, and I won't touch the danger of the potential for glass getting into her little mouth.

Could anyone tell me where to purchase reasonable syringes. Murphy uses U-100s, and they are .3/ 30 gauge I believe.

Thanks, I will make a note of it for future reference.

As a controlled substance (narcotic), I was under the impression it could not be
mail-ordered, etc.

No, narcotics and other opiates cannot be mail ordered, but this is right down the street from me so I can pick up during lunch time at work! You should be able to find a nice compounding pharmacy around somewhere. Saves money, that's for sure, and saving on the B12 as well.

Was that Costco at a local or Costco online?

Ah ha...I knew there had to be a catch....when I was able to get bupe through Walmart, it was
about $3.50 per 1ml mini-vial. My vet would sell it to me around $5 per mini-vial (below his
usual retail price).

Don't need any right now, but I'll keep this in mind for the future.

I could have purchased the vials, but they are glass and my vet said if you don't break them the right way, there's a potential for glass getting into kitty's mouth.
