Murphy 10/11/10 PMPS 188 - Question on Lantus

Murphy is still going strong! Question - how long does a vial of Lantus last for pets? My vet said it should last me at least 3 months, but the pharmacy says 28 days.

This is a subject of on-going debate! The manufacturer recommends that Lantus not be used for longer than 28 days which is the information that your pharmacist is giving you. Many people here get longer than that amount of time from their vial or pen. There are members of the German Lantus forum who have been able to use their Lantus for 6 mos. That said, many people here discard whatever remaining insulin is left after 28 days. I'm one of those people. Gabby just seems sensitive to the age of her insulin. It's also why I use a Lantus Solostar pen rather than a vial -- there's less waste.
